Job Description
As the director of Battery Printer Engineering, Office of the CTO you will be leading the development of the next generation of Sakuu Lithium Battery Printers. You will have the opportunity to build your own team of engineers from within the company and hires you will make to build a team of experienced Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Materials, and Electrochemical Engineers and Scientists. Together, under your leadership, you will help define the technology for mass produced, customizable batteries with industry leading safety and performance. Sakuu is leading the way in multi-material printing of high-performance cells and packs for mobility, consumer, aerospace, storage and beyond to help build the breakthroughs that will enable our sustainable energy future. Sakuu performs our cutting-edge engineering and development in our facilities in San Jose California. The successful candidate will help define the location for this work, either at our San Jose facilities or in a selected location which provides the best opportunities for building a world class team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical development of components and assemblies for battery printers. Technologies include motion and motion control, laser patterning, fluidized powder handling, inkjet, aerosol coating, IR and UV curing, and thermal management for our next generation of products.

-Manage hardware design through ideation, simulation, proof of concept, design (including 3D modelling), prototyping, and validation. -Problem definition and resolution in complex electromechanical systems focusing on process and hardware performance and reliability using data collection and analysis including simulations.

  • Work with Process, Materials, and Battery Engineering to design and test new hardware and materials for production battery printing.
  • Follow industry specifications and standards especially safety standards.
  • Be the technical expert on electromechanical aspects of the printer technology
  • Develop vendors and manufacturing partners for optimized designs for manufacturing, reliability, and performance.
  • Apply high level program objectives to the generation of specific plans and project tasks. Implement design and test procedures and generate manufacturing documentation, bills of materials and reports. 10 to 20% travel required depending on circumstances.

Qualifications: Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with 10-20+ years of relevant experience
  • Extensive experience in the design, construction, and operation principles of electrophotographic (xerographic) systems including electrostatic image creation, development, substrate feeding and manipulation, fusing, and finishing.
  • Familiarity with 2D or 3D engineering design and manufacturing tools (preferably SolidWorks)
  • Ability to break down complex problems into key requirements working cross functionally.
  • Extensive experience in driving development and testing of mechanical subsystems
  • Expertise in 3D Modelling, 2D Drafting, development of P&ID schematics.
  • Expertise in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing and tolerance analysis
  • Good technical written communication and ability to lead design reviews.
  • In-depth expertise of physics, optics, heat and mass transfer, materials design principles, and fluidics.
