Early Academic Outreach Coordinator

About Our Opportunity:

As the Early Academic Outreach Coordinator, you will focus on outreach efforts aimed at increasing the college-going rate of underrepresented student populations with a special focus on Indiana black students from Indiana. In support of this aim, the position will counsel and assist students, their families and communities throughout middle and high school to help them understand and prepare for the college search and selection process. Primary responsibilities include middle and high school outreach, family engagement, college knowledge support programming, and responsibility with program coordination and other special projects. Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently with limited supervision is imperative for this position. The individual in this role will need to be an outstanding communicator with the ability to engage and build relationships with prospective students and families, high school counselors, community based organizations, and campus partners.


The location for this position is in Northwest Indiana, specifically Lake County, Indiana, and will require working remotely from a home office.


What We’re Looking For:
Required:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Four years of experience in customer service, student services, or recruitment.
  • A sound grasp and understanding of the recruitment and orientation process.
  • A Valid US or Canadian driver’s license.
  • Ability to work independently and successfully with limited supervision.
  • Ability to think critically and use problem-solving and judgment skills to make educated, professional decisions.
  • Understanding and support for the benefits of a diverse campus community.
  • An attitude that values the perspectives of others.
  • Strong communicator with the ability to engage with diverse constituent groups of students and families.
  • Comfortability speaking to audiences of all sizes, both in-person and virtually.


Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in education or counseling.
  • University admissions experience or experience in event planning and management.
