This Opportunity

We have a full time career opportunity with WSP’s highly-regarded Hazard Mitigation and Emergency Management (HM & EM) program in our Denver office for a planner to support hazard mitigation, resiliency and emergency management services for state and local governments and other clients. A BS or MS in planning, GIS, emergency management, civil/environmental engineering, geography, environmental science, or related field and 0 – 1 year + of experience, or any equivalent education and experience. After initial onboarding and training, may have the opportunity to work a hybrid office and home schedule

Your Impact

  • Working in a team environment, support the development and update of Hazard Mitigation Plans that meet Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 (DMA 2000) standards.
  • Perform research and statistical risk assessment analyses on hazard data and write significant portions of planning documents.
  • Data collection, organization, and documentation to support a variety of planning efforts.
  • Assist with other emergency management projects and plans in preparedness, response and recovery
  • Provide other research and writing tasks as necessary to support a wide range of planning tasks and overall plan development

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • BS in Planning, GIS, Emergency Management, Civil/Environmental Engineering, Geography, Environmental Science or related field.
  • 0 - 1 year + experience, or any equivalent education and experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivated and capable of independent work, but demonstrated ability to work on project teams.
  • Strong writing and document skills a must; strong MS Office skills, particularly related to planning documents.
  • Must possess good organizational and communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical / problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and experience with QA/QC and data analysis.
  • Must pass background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS degree
  • Experience developing or reviewing DMA 2000 hazard mitigation plans
  • Knowledge of HAZUS, FEMA Benefit Cost software, EMAP, NFIP and CRS
  • Familiarity with FEMA RiskMAP program
  • Familiarity or experience with ESRI's ArcGIS software
  • Experience with one or more of the following: land use planning, recovery planning, climate change adaptation planning, resiliency planning, emergency operations plans, drought mitigation and response plans, Community Wildfire Protection Plans

Compensation and Benefits:
WSP provides a comprehensive suite of benefits including medical, dental, vision, disability, life, and retirement savings focused on a providing health and financial stability throughout the employee’s career.

Expected Salary: $55,000 - $65,000
