HMRC’s Fraud Investigation Service (FIS) is responsible for the department’s civil and criminal investigations. FIS ensures that HMRC has an effective approach to tackling the most serious tax evasion and fraud. FIS is home to a wide range of people with a variety of skills and professional backgrounds – including accountants, cybercrime specialists, criminal justice professionals, tax professionals and operational delivery support teams to name but a few. We use a range of powers and approaches to protect funding for UK public services, investigating the most harmful tax cheats and ensuring nobody is beyond our reach.
As a supervisor under the Money Laundering Regulations of almost 36,000 businesses across nine high risk sectors, HMRC is key to protecting the UK against the threat of money laundering and terrorist financing. We support those businesses who want to do the right thing, educating them on the impact of money laundering and terrorist financing, the risks they face, and the consequences of not taking action. We safeguard the sectors by preventing criminals and unfit persons obtaining roles in businesses we supervise and pursuing those businesses that should be registered for supervision but aren’t. And we respond robustly when businesses fail to manage money laundering risks by not implementing the regulations.
This is a key role within the Fraud Investigation Service. The successful applicant will be working in an interesting and high-profile part of the department which links into wider, cross-Government work to tackle money laundering/terrorist financing.

All Criminal Record Checks applications are considered fairly in accordance with the DBS Code of Practice and the Recruitment of ex-offenders Policy.
As part of the application process, you will be asked to provide CV detailing your qualifications (50 words), career history (50 words), skills and experience (100 words). Your CV is for information purposes and will not be scored.
You will also be asked to provide a 500 word personal statement to demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria and what you and your experience can bring to the role. The personal statement will be scored. An initial sift will be done on the personal statement. If the application is successful at this stage, it will be progressed to a full sift on all three behaviours.
You will also be asked to provide examples up to 250 words each, on three behaviours:
In the event of a large number of applications, an initial sift may be done on the lead behaviour Communicating and Influencing We reserve the right to raise the pass mark, to manage the number of successful candidates to be interviewed.
In the event of tied scores, the merit order will be determined on the overall score, then the scores of each competency in the order listed.
Sift and interview dates to be confirmed. Candidates successful at sift will be invited to the next stage, which will consist of a blended interview where your behaviours and strengths will be assessed. Selection will be by paper sift, potentially followed by face to face interview.
We reserve the right to raise the score required at any stage of the process in order to manage numbers.

Please note: in addition to the standard pre-employment checks for appointment into the Civil Service, all candidates must also obtain National Security Vetting at Security Check (SC) clearance level for this vacancy.
