About the Opportunity
The Editorial Photo Editor position calls for a creative, self-motivated, and detail-oriented professional responsible for receiving and editing editorial content for the global market under tight deadlines. Photo Editors collaborate daily with photographers, assignment editors, sales reps, and tech teams to drive excellence across all our event and assignment coverage.
You are someone who thrives in the fast-paced, 24/7 world of entertainment, news, and sports and is comfortable with non-traditional work hours. You are a self-starting, multitasking team player who can also assume individual responsibility for issues as they arise. The ideal candidate thinks strategically and applies expert judgement to identify the most impactful images to drive value for our global market and clients.

The Day to Day
  • Review, edit, and curate images, both onsite and remotely, for entertainment, news, and sport events.
  • Identify, edit, and select the most impactful photographs ensuring that relevant aspects of a story are covered.
  • Review and edit captions and keywords for accuracy in accordance with Shutterstock’s guidelines and standards.
  • Collaborate with staff photographers, contributors, and partners to provide editing guidance, actionable feedback, and file transfer support.
  • Prioritize image selection and processing with consideration for the market, customers and deadlines.
  • Collaborate with others in the editing team to conduct post-event quality evaluation, sharing insights with the relevant parties to drive consistency.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, and the Contributor Management team to understand market trends and customer expectations when curating compilations or collections.
  • Maintain full awareness and interest in global entertainment events, news, trends, fashion, and celebrities.
  • Maintain a regularly updated Shutterstock Editorial homepage that reflects the top events and stories of the day.
  • Develop, build, and maintain relationships with clients and contributors by providing excellent customer service.
  • Maintain a full understanding of the global client base, expected deadlines, and image preferences.
  • Ability to troubleshoot photo software and connectivity issues onsite at events
  • Significant amount of travelling and working evenings and weekends may be required.

What you’ll bring to the role:
  • 4+ years of event-based photo editing experience.
  • Expertise working with industry standard image editing tools and processes (including Adobe Photoshop, Photo Mechanic, and FTP clients).
  • Familiarity with metadata standards, proficient at creating and editing captions, keywords and media classifications.
  • Exceptional at achieving time-sensitive production goals while managing multiple (and competing) priorities and imminent deadlines.
  • A solutions-based attitude and the ability to work in high pressure and fast-paced client-facing situations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work well alongside a team, both in person and remotely.
  • Available to work non-traditional schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays. Some travel is required.
  • Proficiency in both Microsoft Windows and Mac OS

The compensation package offered may vary depending on employment experience, skills, and knowledge. You may also be eligible for our generous benefits package including health, wellness and financial benefits. Compensation ranges for candidates in locations outside of the location(s) below may differ based on the cost of labor, market, and additional factors.

The pay range for this position is below:
  • 60,000 - 70,000 per year in California
Note: Commission-eligible roles are expressed as on-target earnings (base and commission). Non-commission roles are expressed as base salary only but are also eligible for annual incentives.
