Education Support Specialist III

Duration: 6 Months (Possible extension)

Purpose of Position:

  • To provide quality professional services to all current and potential aid recipients through the total utilization and effective coordination of all assigned personnel and resources available for the administration of student financial aid.
  • Specifically, coordinate the functions of student aid application, financial aid counseling, data entry, determining student need, awarding aid, maintaining records, monitoring eligibility, reporting, and personnel training and performance evaluation.
  • To manage the program following guidelines and regulations set forth by federal, state, and local programs.
  • To assist with other student services functions as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Competency in the coordination of service delivery to students. Knowledge of academic programs, federal and state financial aid programs.
  • Competent in personal computer applications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Effective counseling skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population.
  • Able to pay attention to detail, multi-task, and be highly accurate.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and interpret administrative policies and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external colleagues.
  • Commitment to community college concept and strong sense of customer service.
  • Ability to coordinate the financial aid activities of an integrated electronic student information system.

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification required for entry into position:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or other pertinent field; or combination of education, relevant certifications and experience. Intermediate to advanced experience in computer use.
  • Experience in financial aid preferred. Database management experience preferred.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Supervise part-time financial aid assistant (when applicable) and work-study employees.
  • Coordinates the Application Process and Data Entry into SIS/FA Access.
  • Program Development.
  • Serves as Functional Lead for the SIS (PeopleSoft) Financial Aid Module.
  • Coordinates the Need Analysis Review and Awarding Process and Data Entry of Awards into SIS.
  • Coordinates Monitoring and Reporting Requirements to Ensure Compliance.
  • Coordinates Authorization and Disbursement Process for all financial aid accounts.

Job Type: Contract

Salary: $30.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Day shift
  • Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Melfa, VA 23410: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

Experience:

  • Customer service: 1 year (Preferred)

Work Location: One location
