Embedded Software Engineer Intern

This position is part of Parker's Electronic Motion & Controls Division (EMC) which provides technologies that create and control motion to customers across a wide range of applications and industries. This exciting opportunity allows you to become part of a team that aligns products, worldwide engineering and manufacturing capabilities to build our presence in a growing electrification space. This position will be part of the Connected Products Center of Excellence (CoE) and will work closely with the Internet of Things (IoT) team. They will be responsible to develop requirements, implement, and test connected products in the mobile controls space. The role will work with cross functional teams across Motion Systems Group to determine requirements and implement them to enable products to be managed on the edge.

Position Summary

As a member of the CoE, the systems engineering Intern will work to extend Parker's offering of digital services relating to connected components in the mobile systems space. Responsibilities may include implementation of CAN protocol stacks, aggregation and display of fault states of devices on the machine's bus, interfacing with IoT gateway and cloud systems, developing vehicle-level OTA systems, and defining communications conventions to ensure interoperability between Parker components (as well as with third party components).


Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Develop software for embedded sensors, controllers, and displays to enable connectivity in the mobile controls environment
  • Understand, implement, and use various CAN-based communications protocols
  • Develop software for the gateway that aggregates signal data and sends to Azure Cloud
  • Develop written requirements for other software that interfaces with connected products
  • Comply to engineering standards with the guidance of senior engineers
  • Collaborate with product teams to determine diagnostics, sensing data, control data, predictive and prognostic data that can be used to develop models, reports and solutions which enable customers to reduce downtime, improve performance and maintain their products and systems
  • Able to interpret time series data that comes from sensors, machines, API's and components and write code to correlate it into actionable insights
  • Understand the basics of machine control and interpret sensor data

Qualifications

Qualifications:


  • Student must be currently pursuing a computer science or engineering degree.
  • Experience in one or more programming languages: C/C++, Python
  • Demonstrated track record with embedded software development
  • Strong communication and team work skills
  • Prior experience with CAN is a plus
  • Experience working in Azure or similar environment a plus
  • Positive attitude with passion for growth, can-do approach to obstacles
  • Able to work in a flexible environment both remote and on site in Elk Grove Village as conditions require
