What You Can Look Forward To:



Energy Recovery, In. is seeking a qualified candidate for an immediate full-time opening for Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Engineer, located in San Leandro, CA. This position reports to the VP of Operations and will be responsible for planning, deploying, and maintaining the HSE program.


What Will You Do?
  • Leads programs for compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations and requirements
  • Provides compliance specifications/recommendations to Production Team
  • Ensures accurate and timely environmental and safety recordkeeping and document management including the submission of periodic reports to regulatory agencies
  • Leads and/or assists with emergency response activities
  • Interface with regulatory and public sector safety authorities as appropriate
  • Participate in Safety Audits, JHA's and other elements of Plant/Process Safety Management integral to sites' safety performance
  • Provide safety training for office, R&D and manufacturing employees.
  • Preparing and updating site HSE procedures and processes. Ensure alignment to Company requirements
  • Waste management and inspection and maintenance of safety equipment’s (Hazardous and Non-hazardous)
  • Maintain dashboards and safety KPI’s
  • Maintain ISO management and certifications 14001 and 45001
  • All other projects and duties as assigned


What You Bring to the Table:
  • Bachelor’s degree. In engineering, manufacturing, safety, environmental science, or industrial hygiene.
  • 2-5 years’ previous experience in the health and safety field is desired.
  • Having experience or being familiar with ISO45001 and ISO14001.
  • Effectively demonstrates ability to deliver on complex situations or problems without guidance or supervision.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other comparable HSE certification, otherwise willing to be a CSP with a reasonable time.
  • Some team oriented and effective public speaking skills.
  • Significant experience participating in risk assessments, HSE audits, and implementing HSE Management systems.
  • Significant knowledge of Cal-OSHA and HSE legislation.
  • Some knowledge of environmental and industrial hygiene practices, first aid practices, and HAZCOM.
  • Some experience conducting root cause analysis/incident investigations.
  • Significant oral, written, IT, and Microsoft Office skills.

$95,000 - $102,000 a year
The below range is the range that we reasonably believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California. This range may be modified in the future. The salary range for this role is $95,000 to $102,000
