Job Summary:


Energy Recovery is seeking a motivated and passionate Sustainability and Social Impact Intern to join our team during the summer of 2024. This internship offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in sustainability initiatives within a dynamic and forward-thinking organization. As a Sustainability and Social Impact Intern, you will work closely with our sustainability team to support various projects and initiatives aimed at advancing our environmental and social goals. 


Major Duties & Responsibilities:
  • ESG Rating Agency Analysis: 
  • Conduct in-depth research on industry trends, rating agencies, and reporting frameworks relevant to sustainability. Gain experience and familiarity with MSCI, CDP, ISS, and other rating agencies. 
  • Assist in developing strategies to incorporate research findings into current reporting processes, ensuring alignment with industry best practices. 
  • Community Engagement: 
  • Execute and promote social impact activities throughout the internship period, focusing on initiatives that foster community engagement and environmental stewardship. 
  • Research and identify opportunities for the implementation of future community engagement initiatives 
  • Data Management and Visualization: 
  • Enhance process for collecting scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas emissions data. 
  • Assist in the development and implementation of automation tools to streamline data collection processes. 
  • Contribute to the creation of data visualizations and dashboards to effectively communicate sustainability performance metrics. 
  • Initiative Research and Benchmarking: 
  • Conduct research on sustainability initiatives and reporting best practices adopted by peer organizations, identifying areas for improvement and innovation. 
  • All other duties & projects as assigned. 


Skills & Requirements:
  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in Environmental Studies, Sustainability, Business Administration, or a related field. 
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to gather, analyze, and interpret data from various sources. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. 
  • High proficiency in data visualization software (such as BI or Tableau), Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with creating data automation workflows (such as Excel macros or Google scripts) preferred.  
  • Familiarity with sustainability reporting frameworks and rating agencies (e.g., GRI, SASB, MSCI, CDP) is a plus. 
  • Passion for sustainability and a desire to make a positive impact on the environment and society. 


$20 - $25 an hour
The below range is the range that we reasonably believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California. This range may be modified in the future. The salary range for this role is $20 to $25.
