Manager, Product and Sustaining Engineering

Energy Recovery Inc. is seeking a qualified candidate for an immediate full-time job opening for the position of Product & Sustaining Engineering Manager, located in San Leandro, CA and reporting to the Sr. Director of Product and Sustaining Engineering. The selected candidate shall provide engineering guidance and support with regard to maintenance and continuous improvement of Energy Recovery Inc. products through their entire lifecycle. As well as mentor and guide, the less experienced engineers as they mature and grow in the company. Successful candidate for this role must demonstrate to have effectively led and converted prototype designs of rotating equipment into field ready pilots and ensured their maintenance. Ideally, the candidate possesses experience in integrating such pilot equipment into existing systems. The Product and Sustaining Engineering department is a dynamic group of engineers and technicians with a wide range of backgrounds. We are looking for a talented and energetic candidate who can thrive in a team environment. The team supports all Business Units and R&D as they bring new products to the market, provide service to customers, and support sales activities. They ensure products are properly stewarded through the full product lifecycle. 


Major Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Ensure all projects that are assigned to the Product and Sustaining engineering group are completed in line with all budgetary and time requirements
  • Working closely with the sustaining engineer, it is also the responsibility of this role to assign what is sustaining and what needs to move back further up the chain
  • Actively look for opportunities to increase Product and Sustaining Engineering reach or capabilities within Energy Recovery
  • Cultivate and maintain good working relationships with all internal and external customers
  • Work closely with BU’s to ensure customer responses (internal & external) happen in a timely manner and provide detailed planning for any potential actions that may be needed for product improvements
  • Develop the Product and Sustaining team members to bring more value to Energy Recovery Inc and themselves while progressing them up the technical career path
  • Assure all new products move from R&D to production promptly and process requirements are met or excited so that the product can transition to commercial sales with no issue
  • Handle all promotion, compensation, and bonus conversations with professionalism and with an understanding of parameters
  • Must provide feedback as to the potential growth of the teams, need for additional resource, possible skill set gaps, particularly sustaining
  • Effectively communicate with all stakeholders within a sensible timeline
  • Create policies and procedures necessary to ensure quality, efficient, and cost-effective production
  • Assure that process meets quality and safety compliance guidelines
  • At times when/if workload is low, will provide engineering support to other teams across Technology and Engineering function
  • Must gauge the balance of PX vs. Pump & Turbo related projects/activities and therefore develop a multi-disciplinary team of engineers who can be engaged in different products lines
  • All other duties & projects as assigned


Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Minimum of Masters’ degree in Mechanical Engineering with 7+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Proficiency in commercial CAD packages such as SolidWorks required
  • Familiarity with use of a commercial FEA tool such as ANSYS for structural analysis
  • Experience with Value Engineering
  • Familiarity with engineering standards such as ASME/API/ANSI/NFPA
  • Experience with design, analysis and testing of rotor-dynamic & reciprocating fluid machines a plus
  • Good Grasp of manufacturability of rotating equipment
  • Proven track record of documentation 
  • Experience with Reliability Engineering a plus
  • Must possess a demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, manage multiple tasks, and be goal oriented
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Up to 15% of domestic and international travel



$140,000 - $160,000 a year
The below range is the range that we reasonably believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California. This range may be modified in the future. The salary range for this role is $140,000 to $160,000
