ENGINEER - RESEARCH ENGINEER - LABVIEW & DAQ

Who We Are:

The Rotating Machinery Group at Southwest Research Institute is responsible for transitioning ideas and concepts for improving machinery, machinery based power systems, and renewable energy systems into tangible systems that we design, build, and test.

Objectives of this Role:
  • Assist engineers in developing custom data acquisition and control strategies for various tests to ensure that the team can adequately monitor machine performance, safety, and health of the machine.
  • Create custom graphical user interfaces in LabVIEW to control and display data such that clients and engineers running tests can adequately control the operation of advanced thermal piping systems.
  • Assist in operating test apparatus and systems that clients are validating prototypes to solve challenges in zero carbon initiatives.
  • Analyze data in excel and MATLAB and report data to the client.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
  • Design, procure, and assemble data acquisition systems including instrumentation, DAQ modules, hardware, and wiring.
  • Use Labview to develop acquisition and control modules and graphical user interfaces to assist in operating tests.
  • Program various functions and sub-VIs to monitor flow, temperature, vibration, pressure, density, etc. using various instruments.
  • Understand various electrical instruments including pressure transducers, eddy current probes, thermocouples, and associated DATA acquisition systems.
Requirements:
  • Requires a Bachelors, Masters, or a PhD in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • Interest in Data Acquisition, LabVIEW, PLC's, Instrumentation and sensors
  • MS or PhD candidates required to have academic background in Data Acquisition, LabVIEW, PLC's, Instrumentation and sensors
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.
Special Requirements:

Must be a U.S. person (i.e., U.S. citizen, non-U.S. citizen national, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) due to ITAR work in section.
