As Engineering Director, you are responsible for the delivery of our Backbase as a Service product towards our customers and the effective operation of the value stream with regards to people- and team management, by providing strategic direction, mentorship and support where needed. It includes topics like collaboration, growth, engineering processes and productivity, organizational and budget management and effective delivery management, while fostering an inclusive and high performance work environment.

In this role, you are responsible for creating the conditions in which engineering teams are set up for high performance and can maintain and deliver features that meet the high expectations of both our internal- and external customers, while ensuring that all essential non-functional requirements like security, performance, maintainability and reliability are taken into account.
On a day-to-day basis you work closely with the team and managers as part of the value stream leadership team to surface any anti-pattern or dysfunction that impacts the team's performance or team productivity and ensure the team works towards solving those in a straightforward and effective way.
You have strongly developed communication- and leadership skills to inspire and motivate others around you. You easily navigate customers, partners and stakeholders across Backbase, from 1-to-1s with your team members to working directly with senior leadership.
Your leadership style is rooted in objective, data-driven insights, utilizing metrics such as ticket cycle time, capacity forecasting, and SLAs on response and resolution time. In addition, you prioritize ensuring proper capacity allocation to effectively execute standard operating procedures.
As the person in charge, you will be accountable for overseeing schedule management and ensuring an adequate number of on-call engineers. Additionally, you will be responsible for facilitating the growth of the engineers through a shadow engineering program and ensuring that root cause analyses (RCAs) are conducted and properly followed up on.
As a key member of the leadership team, you will be responsible for overseeing the operational review, incident management setup, and monitoring, and delivering comprehensive reports on incidents, including trends, to management. You will take ownership of reporting on critical incidents and initiatives in alignment with other departments, fostering a cohesive approach across all operational teams within Backbase.
You create and implement best practices, engineering vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to aid and improve the business performance. The engineering strategies and processes you develop should aid in meeting business objectives and operational needs in terms of quality, delivery targets, as well as enable the company to function and compete effectively in the market.
