About the role

The product team at Morning Brew consists of product management, engineering, and product design. We are a group of thoughtful individuals who thrive in a fast-paced environment, have a bias to action, strive to learn from each other, and level up ourselves and our teammates every day. We are a lean team within a growing organization, which means that each person is empowered with a large area of ownership and is expected to flex to help the team when emerging opportunities arise. The three pillars of product collaborate closely in pods, working to build and ship products in an agile fashion (though we are hardly purists!). We set lofty but attainable goals, and expect the highest quality of work from ourselves and each other.

Morning Brew is looking for our first Engineering Intern! No previous employment experience as a software engineer is required but the ideal candidate is someone who shows a passion for programming, a passion for learning and would be willing to accept a full-time position on our team upon successful completion of the internship. You will succeed in this role if you’re curious, unafraid of failing, and open to receiving continuous and constructive feedback from all team members. This role sits within Product and reports to a Senior Fullstack Engineer.

Morning Brew is based in New York City but this role is remote-friendly for all candidates 

Our 2022 summer internships begin on June 1st and finish August 12th. Interns are expected to work 40 hours a week, and be available for the duration of the internship.

What you'll do:

• Assisting the entire engineering team with all aspects of software design.
• Learning the codebase and improving your coding skills.
• Diving into a project or two like:
• Helping us rewrite our newsletter templates
• Helping to dockerize more of our infrastructure
• Building new functionality into our React-based editorial CMS

About you

• Knowledge of basic programming languages like C#, Python, JavaScript & HTML required.
• Knowledge of databases and operating systems like PostgreSQL and Linux required.
• Basic understanding of Git is required.
• Ability to learn new software and technologies quickly.
• Ability to follow instructions and work in a team environment.
• Detail-oriented.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, startup environment.
• Ability to accept a full time position upon successful completion of our internship program.
