Enterprise Architect

Location: Carmel, Indiana; Eagan, Minnesota; Little Rock, Arkansas, or Remote

MISO’s Domain / Enterprise Architect is responsible for architectural planning, coordination, design, and developing models and artifacts at a domain level, such as a portfolio of systems, ensuring compliance with MISO’s technology architecture, standards, and regulatory requirements. This includes:

  • Engaging with stakeholders applying architectural methods and producing architectural artifacts used to manage the power grid for 45 million people
  • Effective communication and support of architectural concerns in collaboration with all required business and technical areas
  • Evaluating emerging technologies (replacement, removal and retirement of inefficient or outdated technologies)
  • Using business knowledge and technical expertise to provide technical advice and engineering assistance to customers; and assisting in the evaluation of vendor supplied solutions and their potential impact on the business, application, data and technology architecture
  • Documenting changes to the existing architecture and communicating changes to appropriate IT and Business groups

As MISO’s Domain / Enterprise Architect, you will:

  • Apply methods to systematically create architectures based on the analysis of known functional requirements, quality requirements and constraints
  • Own architecture recommendations and support agile teams and other groups as they are taken from concept, to prototype, to fully supported implementations
  • Take a lead role in collectively building and maintaining Architecture Runways and enablers with associated agile teams
  • Evaluate architectures to properly balance trade-offs among quality goals including design review for adherence to standards and compliance requirements
  • Drive innovative solutions to reduce technology costs and improve performance and scalability resulting in business flexibility and growth
  • Assume responsibility for developing, implementing, and completing highly complex often unique or pioneering projects

To qualify for MISO’s Domain / Enterprise Architect, we’re looking for the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in Science, Engineering or related technical field required.
  • Master’s Degree in Science, Engineering or related technical field preferred.
  • Continuing education and/or certification in one or more of the following areas, Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)/Scrum, Azure, AWS, ArchiMate, and Architecture-related frameworks such as (TOGAF, DODAF, Zachman) preferred.
  • Ten years development, implementation, and maintenance of technology architectures for a business, required
  • Five years technology leadership role in enterprise design, developing and implementing software solutions for an enterprise, preferred
  • Creating, analyzing and reviewing solution architectures based on formal methods / approaches, preferred.
  • Architecture standards, best practices and evolving trends and able to communicate with domain experts
  • Energy Industry domain knowledge of energy markets, reliability systems, or infrastructure operations management, preferred


Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge.
