Position Overview

Equi is looking for a talented Head of Engineering, someone who thrives in a startup environment. They should be comfortable being a leader for both people and software technology. Reporting directly to the CEO, you’ll be the primary accountable party and point of communication for leadership of engineering team members, engineering process, technical architecture and ultimately feature delivery to customers.

As the Head of Engineering, you will play a key role in researching and developing innovative products. You will also be responsible for creating project budgets and overseeing their successful execution throughout the year. Collaborating closely with various teams, you will ensure that projects are delivered on schedule and within budget, maintaining a high level of quality. 

At Equi we manage other people’s money, so precision and attention to detail matter. We build tools to help users understand their investments, and also maintain a significant back-office to enable our internal teams to administer our funds and oversee investments.  As the Head of Engineering you will be responsible for the development of both the internal and external facing platforms.

Own: what is this person singularly responsible for?

• Manage engineering, product, and design teams

• Advise and collaborate on best practices for designing and architecting scalable solutions, including design review, code review, and managing a tech radar

• Lead, facilitate, and assist product managers and software engineers in daily processes.

• Be a visible leader and champion of our company’s core values as well as people-focused leadership principles.

• Be the first line of defense in removing blockers for the team while constantly identifying ways to proactively optimize development efficiency

• Partner with senior leadership to define and drive the team's roadmap and set priorities

• Hiring as we scale our business

Assist: what will this person be involved in, or collaborating with other individuals + teams on?

• Partner with the leadership team to establish and drive our product roadmap and business objectives related to technology

• Deliver a high quality product at a fast pace, being flexible as requirements change over time

• Partner with Sales and Asset Management teams to scope and build both internal and externally facing features that continuously improve the Equi platform and deliver the best user experience

• Partner with Legal and Compliance to ensure the team is building compliant and sustainable products as we continue to launch more funds and offerings

• Partner with Recruiting to ensure we are creating a world class engineering culture and assist with hiring new team members to add to the amazing culture we have established

Knowledge: what experience does this person need to possess?

• 2+ years of experience in leading and managing a team of engineers

• 5+ years of experience in an engineering role, familiar with web frontend engineering, backend engineering and modern best-practice cloud infrastructure deployments

• Wealth-tech, hedge fund, and/or alternative investment experience and knowledge is strongly preferred

• High aptitude, ability and desire to operate at both a high level on architecture and defining product roadmap

• Strong communication skills with the ability to partner with both technical and non-technical team members
