Overview:
Halifax Health is seeking an Equipment Technician.
Summary:
The Equipment Tech position incorporates performance of clerical and receptionist duties on assigned unit; maintaining equipment and level of supplies in the assigned unit and assisting unit staff and manager in maintaining an environment that enhances patient safety standards; may also assist with patient care responsibilities as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
Successful completion and maintenance of AHA BLS
Knowledge of medical terminology and/or unit secretary certification preferred
Health related experience in supply and distribution or as an Equipment Tech, Nursing Assistant, or Operating Room Tech preferred
Completion of General Orientation and Unit Orientation and unit-specific competency checklist
Basic computer skills or ability to learn and use hospital computer
Effective communication skills with unit staff and other departments
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Enters physician orders into the computer accurately and efficiently; ensures orders are being entered using correct patient name, medical record number and visit number

Establishes priority of unit needs

Aware of role in all emergency situations

Assembles and maintains patient's chart, ensure all paperwork in chart has correct patient label

Orders unit supplies and chart forms

Greets patient, visitor, physician and other hospital personnel in a courteous, friendly manner

If Monitor Tech competent- ensures all patients are being monitored while on unit; ensures all alarms are active; responds to all monitor alarms and notifies RN, charge nurse, clinical coordinator, or manager as necessary, and obtains a sample of the alarm rhythm and places in appropriate section on the chart

Notifies the RN immediately for any change in patient cardiac rhythm

Admits, discharges and transfers patients appropriately and in a timely manner

Collaborates with Biomedical Department regarding proper maintenance and functioning of equipment

Check that the unit equipment is working properly; reports defective equipment to appropriate department, tags equipment per policy and notifies nurse manager as necessary

Maintains unit level of supplies

Keeps equipment clean and disinfected using appropriate cleaning solution technique

Maintains a clean, safe environment by observing for possible hazards

Run errands to other departments such as SPD, Radiology, Laboratory, and other nursing units

Assists with transport of patients to other areas of hospital

Assists with patient care responsibilities and duties as assigned

Checks patient identification band for two identifiers prior to any interaction with the patient

Performs as an effective Team Member
