The Role


We are seeking an ESG Coordinator for a temporary assignment (approximately 4 – 5 months) based at our HQ Office in Arlington, VA. This is a great opportunity for a recent college graduate looking to gain and/or build upon experience in Inclusion & Diversity (I&D), Strategic philanthropy, environmental sustainability, and ESG more broadly. Responsibilities and areas of focus to include, but are not limited to:


Inclusion & Diversity

  • Provide oversight and manage the I&D Sharepoint Site (i.e.. I&D Calendar, Resource Library, Associate Resource Groups “ARGs” sites)
  • ARGs:
    • Track and provide quarterly updates on ARG budgets
    • Manage and update ARG Toolkit and corresponding resources
    • Provide support to ARGs as needed (ie. processing invoices, setting up/producing events, engaging with external speakers/contacts, etc)
  • Coordinate, manage and support celebration and awareness months and days, as needed


Strategic Philanthropy

  • Provide oversight and manage AvalonBay’s volunteer platform (Benevity Spark)
  • Manage and track the annual philanthropy budget via AvalonBay’s donation platform (Benevity Grants)
  • Provide support for Spirit of Caring Month/Day and Regional Philanthropy teams, as needed (ie. creating/updating templates, planning volunteer events, etc)


ESG General

  • Provide oversight and collaborate with team members to manage and update the ESG Sharepoint Site
  • Support the ESG, I&D and Careers external websites, as needed
  • Partner with Marketing to create content in order to communicate ESG topics, recognition, and initiatives internally (ievia weekly newsletters or otherwise) and externally (ie. social media)
  • Support reporting, including gathering data, resources (photos/visuals) and information for AvalonBay’s annual ESG report


Sustainability

  • Research jurisdictional transparency and performance requirements and map to portfolio
  • Generate Physical Climate Risk assessments and Biodiversity assessments from appropriate portals using addresses as requested by development teams
  • Support creation of dashboards highlighting asset specific environmental data for use in decision making
  • Support remapping of ESG report to newest version of GRI


You Have...


A Bachelor’s degree is required. 0 – 3 years of related experience strongly preferred. Experience in I&D and ESG is helpful, however passion and interest in the topic is required. Project Management skills plus strong analytical skills are required including high proficiency in Excel. In addition, the person will need to be a self-starter with stellar communication and organizational skills.
