Job Description

  • Oversee a team of approximately 10 individuals carrying out routine and non-routine LC and LCMS methods in an ISO17025 accredited analytical production lab.   Carry out methods at the bench and serve as subject matter expert on assigned methods.
  • Lead the transition of a method-based team to a process-based team by assigning duties, conducting training, and implementing new process flows.  Engage with personnel and the Eurofins leadership team for a smooth and coordinated effort.  
  • Meet all productivity metrics (turnaround times, on-time delivery, capacity utilization, etc.) and quality metrics (right-first-pass, nonconformances, closure of records, etc.).
  • Perform instrument calibration, troubleshooting, recognize errors, identify root causes, and maintain excellent working knowledge of laboratory processes and instrumentation.   Serve as a method and instrumentation SME.   Coach/mentor junior analysts.
  • Collaborate with QA and Special Projects teams to develop, optimize, validate, and transfer new methods to the lab, and to resolve issues / challenges impacting routine production.  Lead the efforts of implementing continuous improvement projects by documenting ideas, prioritizing projects, documenting projects, maintaining the status, and communicating status to site leadership.  
  • Elevate interruptions and issues though an “issues log”, prioritize the projects per client and laboratory needs, ensure each member of the team is clear on assignments and priorities, and allocate resources of the team.   Track and report status of projects and updates to stakeholders.
  • Serve as part of the site leadership team to collaborate, optimize processes, and maximize overall site productivity through cross-training and flexing resources.
  • Apply the highest quality standard in all areas of responsibility; maintain ISO 17025 quality standards and accreditation for the laboratory.
  • Demonstrate strong client service skills, teamwork, and collaboration.
  • Proactively plan and maximize productivity.
  • Conduct semiannual performance reviews, interview applicants, keep training records up to date for assigned employees, perform succession planning in preparation for growth.
  • Address personnel problems, concerns, and performance issues with support of leadership.
  • Support and promote company policies and procedures

Qualifications

Basic Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related scientific discipline
  • At least 8 years of experience in laboratory or quality control setting
  • In-depth experience with liquid chromatography and production laboratory operations
  • Experience in method development, method validation, instrument troubleshooting, process improvements, and training of junior scientists
  • Strong leadership, initiative, and teambuilding skills
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree
  • 10+ years of relevant laboratory experience
  • Experience in the tobacco industry is a plus
  • Experience using smoke machines is highly preferred
  • Experience working within an established quality system (ISO 17025 preferred) and GMP/GLP environment
  • Understanding of production laboratory operations
  • Detailed-oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills along with demonstrated ability to collaborate with others.
  • Demonstrate strong client service skills, teamwork, and collaboration
  • Strong computer, scientific, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with company policies

Additional Information

Position is full-time, Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm with overtime as needed. Candidates currently living within a commutable distance of Richmond, VA are encouraged to apply.
