Job Overview:
The Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) manages the communication center of the inpatient nursing units, communicating courteously, effectively, and efficiently with all customers.
Responsibilities:
- Completes clinical information system and patient record responsibilities including admission, discharge, and transfers, patient registration, obtaining and updating insurance information; ensures that records are complete and accurate to allow for patient billing.

Ensures nursing staff is aware of patient needs communicated to the HUC through the nurse call system.

Notifies appropriate staff during emergency situations, acute admissions, and discharges; provides assistance as needed to the nursing staff.

Works closely with the Unit Assistants, coordinating their work assignments

Transcribing physician's order's, processes requisitions for lab work, x-rays etc.

Prepares medical record for admission, discharge and operating room

Covers transport functions of unit assistant; restocks unit with necessary supplies

General administrative/clerical support
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent. Prior administrative assistant experience in a hospital, clinic/medical setting. Patient registration experience strongly preferred, along with excellent customer service skills, supporting patient and families. Working well within a team is a key requirement.
