The Executive Director will provide strategic leadership and oversight for the daily operational responsibilities of Advance Practice Providers (NP, PA, CRNA, CNS and CNM) throughout the Johns Hopkins Health System. This role requires a deep understanding of clinical practice, healthcare administration, and leadership.

This person will be clinically active



  • Develop and implement strategic plans to optimize the use of advance practice providers (APPs) across the health system
  • Establish and maintain a practice environment consistent with JHM's commitment to patient and family centered care, team collaboration, and evidence-based practice.
  • Manage the recruitment, retention, and professional development of APPs
  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative leaders to identify opportunities to expand and enhance the integration and consistency of APPs
  • Identify and provide opportunities for APPs to increase knowledge and skills aligned with education, licensure, and experience to promote professional development and accountability.
  • Identify internal and external benchmarks for evaluation of APP performance (billable and non-billable activities) and create systems to measure APP value through outcome and process metrics, as appropriate
  • Educate and maintains relevant FPPE and OPPE processes and assist in establishing formal documents that detail scope of practice and privileges.
  • Partner with Credentialing leadership to establish standards for credentialing documentation.
  • Evaluate financial impact and optimization of APP models of care, utilization, and support of patient care across the health system.
  • Evaluate APP billing performance and patterns by working with HIM, compliance office, and MR specialists to determine metrics for productivity and evaluation of patient care by APPs.
  • Develop and manage the budget for the Office of Advanced Practice.
  • Serve as a champion for advanced practice within the health system and the broader healthcare community

Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in nursing, physician assistant studies, or related clinical field from an accredited program. (Required)
  • MBA (Preferred)
  • Minimum of 5-7 years progressive leadership experience in an Academic Medical Center preferred
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations and accreditation standards related to advanced practice
  • Demonstrated ability to manage, coach, and mentor teams
  • Ability to promote and support diversity within teams.
  • Experience with consensus-building, conflict resolution, and negotiation
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals
