SUMMARY OF DUTIES

The Benefits Intern plays a key role in supporting Amtrak's Benefits team in its overall mission to enhance the employee experience and improve employee engagement. Specifically, this position support of content creation, revision, maintenance, and management of Benefits content on various platforms.


This position will support the Benefits team with the development, coordination and execution of proactive communications plans and activities related to Benefit programs, services and initiatives. This individual is expected to partner and collaborate effectively with employees at all levels and locations at Amtrak. The position produces a range of written content and the individual must live by Amtrak's Core Values and business behaviors, as well as write and plan effectively, exhibit keen attention to detail, think and act proactively, and drive continual improvement in Amtrak's Benefits communication and engagement initiatives.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Creates and curates engaging content
  • Creates graphics and infographics
  • Identifies opportunities for internal and external engagement. Educate and increase awareness regarding Benefits
  • Supports other duties as assigned
  • Attends meetings and takes notes


Please be advised that the Fall 2023 internship program will run from September 18th - April 26th (full academic year).


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate/graduate degree in communications, English, journalism, graphic design or a related field at an accredited educational institution
  • Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophomore status at minimum
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work and thrive in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment
  • Strong grammar and detail oriented
  • Demonstrated skill in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and social media tools


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Project management experience
  • Knowledge of effective communication best practices
  • Strong interpersonal skills, tact, and collaboration proficiency
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency with AP style
  • Ability to work and manage multiple projects, simultaneously and provide ongoing metrics on activities


COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills


The hourly range is $17.50 per hour - $35.00 per hour. Pay is based on factors including school year, program of study, etc. In addition paid internships include Amtrak rail pass privileges as a part of the experience along with one (1) PTO day per academic year.

If an applicant/employee refuses to provide written consent for Amtrak to obtain these records, the individual will not be permitted to perform safety-sensitive functions.


In accordance with federal law governing security checks of covered individuals for providers of public transportation (Title 6 U.S.C. §1143), Amtrak is required to screen applicants for any permanent or interim disqualifying criminal offenses.


Note that any education requirement listed above may be deemed satisfied if you have an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
