Financial Analyst

The Financial Analyst will work collaboratively with managers and others in the organization to understand their business and resourcing needs in preparing budgets and forecasts, and will develop communications for results to senior management, board of directors, regulators, and customers to keep these groups informed of financial spending needs and developments. In addition, they will independently prepare regulatory and tax filings to ensure company compliance with authorities, will work closely with ISO New England project management to report the benefits and financial impact for a portfolio of capital expenditure projects, which enhance the performance of ISO New England operations, and will complete other ancillary department functions and various ad-hoc requests for information.

How You Will Make an Impact:
  • Coordinate with and guide department managers to successfully prepare timely and detailed budgets/forecasts, with an emphasis on Information Technology business units, and analyze budget submissions to determine trends and take corrective action in spending and successfully document results
  • Take ownership of tracking and reporting on a multi-million dollar portfolio of capital projects for communication in annual budgets, monthly financial reports, and quarterly filings with utility regulator
  • Provide accurate reporting of financial results for internal and external audiences to communicate the company’s financial structure, performance, projections and fluctuations in spending
  • Utilize your data and analytical skills to develop automated solutions, and communicate trends and insights to management for recommending actions to improve operational and financial performance
  • Prepare and/or coordinate annual and quarterly regulatory and tax filings
  • Serve as the primary backup for the Supervisor, Budget and Financial Reporting
What We Are Looking For:
  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA a plus
  • Six or more years of previous work in Accounting or Finance position(s)
  • Experience in accounting, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, with an understanding of the flow of financial information is necessary in addition to strong analytical skills and a high level of attention to detail
  • An understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles especially in relation to internal development costs and knowledge of activity based accounting is desired
  • This individual should be well organized and be able to effectively multitask and meet deadlines, and apply decision making skills when ambiguity arises
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, proficiency in PowerPoint, and Word, and five-plus years experience with Accounting and/or ERP systems
  • Strong business writing skills to provide information to the reader in a clear, concise, and effective manner
Other Desirable Skills:
  • Experience in the electrical utility industry including preparation of FERC Form 1/3Q and knowledge of not-for-profit tax reporting and preparation (IRS Form 990)
  • Experience with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) rules for capitalizing costs and managing the tracking and reporting of a portfolio of capital projects
  • Experience with data analytics tools (BI) and utilizing Systems Applications to automate reporting to drive improved accuracy and efficiency
