The Opportunity

The Device SRE team owns software build and release automation for the Devices team.  We are expanding the scope of our ownership and automation to encompass the deployment and monitoring of software to our fleet of devices.  The existing process for deploying a software release to the fleet is very manual and leverages a lot of human analysis of various data sources.  Our goal is to make this process as fast, objective, and automated as possible while minimizing outages caused by poor quality.

The Skillset

  • Strong coding skills (ex: Python, R, JS, Java, Groovy) and understanding of common algorithms

  • Software development workflows (ex: continuous integration, test automation) and tools (ex: Git, Jenkins, GitHub Actions)

  • Databases & Logging: SQL (ex: PostgreSQL), NoSQL, Time Series (ex: Prometheus, DataDog)

  • Volume data processing (ingestion, pipelines, modeling, storage)

  • Data visualization & dashboarding (ex: Grafana)

  • Statistics & data analysis

  • Cloud computing (ex: AWS) & distributed systems

  • IoT device management

  • Site Reliability Engineering: on-call rotations, alerting, production monitoring

  • Infrastructure as Code (ex: Terraform)

Feeling uneasy that you haven’t ticked every box? That’s okay; we’ve felt that way too. Studies have shown women and minorities are less likely to apply unless they meet all qualifications. We encourage you to break the status quo and apply to roles that would make you excited to come to work every day.
