The Opportunity 

As we continue in our progress to grow and scale our fleet of public safety IoT devices, there will also be a growing variety of deployment challenges to tackle and overcome. As such, it is desirable to add a Structural Engineer to the team in order to augment our relevant subject matter expertise and to contribute to key areas, such as new pole evaluation and analysis, calculations and sign offs on foundational requirements across sites, review and stamp/approve applicable permits, etc… The candidate engineer is required to be a licensed professional (PE) at least in the state of California, and be willing and able to get licensed in all other states. 


The Skillset 

  • A Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Structural or Civil Engineering 

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license in the state of California is a must (SE a plus)

  • Familiarity with latest applicable codes such as ASCE, AASHTO, ASTM, AISC

  • Strong background in structural analysis (wall mounting structure/hardware, support beams and posts, etc…)

  • Familiarity with pole installations (utility, traffic, and similar),  foundational design parameters (height, weight, windspeed, soil, seismic, etc..,)

  • Experience with transportation, public safety, IoT, or related industries and products

  • Experience with generating, reviewing, and stamping/approval engineering drawings

  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations, requirements  and standards related to infrastructure and roadside installations of utility, solar, and other roadside pole installations

  • Strong experience with standard Software tools such as Risa, AutoCad, Excel

  • Ability to prioritize and successfully complete multiple assignments in a fast-paced work environment

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Self directed, with  A desire to work in a highly collaborative, dynamic, and fun team environment

90 Days at Flock

We are a results-oriented culture and believe job descriptions are a thing of the past. We prescribe to 90 day plans and believe that good days, lead to good weeks, which lead to good months. This serves as a preview of the 90 day plan you will receive if you were to be hired as a Structural Engineer Flock Safety. 

The First 30 Days

  • Dig into existing installation guidelines, poles and mounts used, and required HW configurations (devices used, solar panel combinations, etc..), including structural analysis and calculations

  • Begin contributing to ongoing permitting reviews, submissions, and approvals, including foundational drawings 

  • Expand licensed professional status to additional states

  • Get familiar with new product testing requirements, and contribute to ongoing activities

  • Identify gaps in existing processes and guidelines, and propose initiatives to resolve them

  • Understand the product installation experience (join an install) 

The First 60 Days 

  • Get familiar with additional key cross-functional stakeholders/leads

  • Establish a complete understanding of the existing products, installation procedures, and ongoing operational, testing,  and other technical challenges. 

  • Provide subject matter expertise to operational, permitting, and installation teams

  • Ownership of reviewing and stamping/approving foundation drawings. ownership of foundation drawing stamping/approval

  • Provide expert feedback to Mechanical engineering on mount designs, identifying any potential improvement to current and future designs 

  • Own and independently drive engagement with external vendors or firms, as related to the vetting, analysis and selection of Flock’s poles, foundations, and permitting requirements

  • Study and profiling - compiling quantitative data to evaluate and recommend changes or innovations to mount/poles/foundational requirements and approaches

  • Contribute to updating and reformulating  physical deployment requirements and guidelines, and help identify new implementation options for evaluation as part of the formulation of a longer term strategy to help Flock scale it’s fleet in the most optimal, cost-effective, and robust way possible

90 Days & Beyond 

  • Driving previously identified gaps and related initiatives to a closure

  • Underway on executing at least some of the work streams identified in the formulated  long term plan proposed

  • Contribute to product management and roadmap decisions

The Interview Process 

We want our interview process to be a true reflection of our culture: transparent and collaborative. Throughout the interview process, your recruiter will guide you through the next steps and ensure you feel prepared every step of the way. 

  1. Our First Chat: During this first conversation, you’ll meet with a recruiter to chat through your background, what you could bring to Flock, what you are looking for in your next role, and who we are. 

  2. The Hiring Manager Interview: You will meet with your potential future boss to really dive into the role, the team, expectations, and what success means at Flock. This is your chance to really nerd out with someone in your field. 

  3. The Technical Assessment: Our technical assessments seek to test the hard skills required to do the job. Engineers may find themselves in coding interviews or architecture discussions, sales roles may present mock discovery calls, and leadership roles may craft 90 day plans. Your recruiter will inform you of which assessment you will be assigned and ensure you are fully prepared for your big day. 

  4. The Panel: Learn more about the team, responsibilities, and workflows. You should be prepared to speak about past projects, how you collaborate and communicate with others, and how you live our values. Depending on the team and role you are interviewing for, you may meet with several teammates as well as cross-functional partners. 

  5. The Executive Review: A chance to meet an executive and view Flock from a different lens. Be prepared to ask well-thought-out questions about the company, culture, and more.

💰Salary & Equity: In this role, you’ll receive a starting salary of $100,000-$130,000 as well as stock options
