Foodsmart seamlessly integrates dietary assessments and nutrition counseling with online food ordering and cost-effective meal planning for the entire family, optimizing ingredients both at home and on the go. We partner with national and regional retailers across the U.S., many of whom accept SNAP/EBT, making healthier food more accessible. Additionally, we assist members with SNAP enrollment and management, providing tangible access to nutritious food.In 2024, Foodsmart secured a $200 million investment from TPG’s Rise Fund, which supports entrepreneurs dedicated to achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. This investment will help us expand our reach, particularly to low-income workers who are disproportionately affected by diet-related diseases.

About the role:


As the Director of Communications at Foodsmart, you will play a critical role in shaping our public relations strategy and enhancing our social media footprint. You will lead the charge in building and maintaining relationships with key media outlets, particularly within local markets, while developing and executing comprehensive PR campaigns that align with our business objectives. Your efforts will be instrumental in driving awareness and visibility for our brand, especially within our key hubs. This is a remote opportunity with a strong preference for candidates located within Arizona, California, or the Greater Chicago Area. 


You will:
  • Build Relationships with Local Media: Identify and prioritize media outlets in key geographies (e.g., Chicago, Arizona), building a robust network of contacts to ensure timely and impactful coverage of our initiatives. Proactively pitch stories, conduct outreach, and cultivate relationships with media outlets, focusing on newspapers, broadcasts, and other relevant platforms.
  • Create and Implement Creative PR Strategies: Lead the development and execution of a targeted PR strategy with a strong emphasis on local outreach. Drive PR efforts to support our community marketing strategy, product launches, and other newsworthy moments, securing media attention before and after these events.
  • Expand our Social Media Footprint: Strategically develop and manage a social media calendar that supports our B2B and B2C initiatives, highlights company achievements, drives member awareness, and supports dietitian recruitment efforts. Implement and refine social media strategies that align with our broader communications goals, ensuring consistent and engaging brand messaging. 
  • Own our Talent Brand: Work to evolve our talent brand, with a particular focus on dietitians and technologists. Partner closely with our People Team to identify opportunities to highlight Foodsmart as a leading employer, including building an employee ambassador program.


You are:
  • A strategic thinker with the ability to operate autonomously and drive results.
  • Detail oriented and able to simultaneously manage multiple projects. 
  • Excited about the opportunity to build and evolve how Foodsmart is received by potential media partners, as well as prospective employees, clients and members.


You have:
  • Extensive experience in public relations, with a proven track record of success in local markets.
  • Strong capability in building media relationships and securing impactful coverage.
  • Experience in organic social media management and strategy development, with a focus on driving engagement and brand visibility.
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives.
