High Line Street Team Staff

This position will support the Community Engagement team with community outreach efforts for programming taking place on and off the park and any special initiatives the organization has underway.

We are looking for 2 individuals with deep roots in the immediate communities surrounding the High Line, including Chelsea, Hell’s Kitchen, the Meatpacking District, and the West Village. Existing relationships with local NYCHA housing (Elliott-Chelsea and Fulton Houses) and/or the older adult residential developments (Westbeth Artist Housing, Elliott-Chelsea NORC, Penn South etc.) is also preferred. 

Ideal Candidate: Identifies as, or is connected to, caretakers of school-age children and/or older adults and the complexities of aging and family life. Relevant High Line initiatives to support through this role include family programs, older adult wellness, cultural and arts events, and more. 

This candidate must be able to articulate the High Line’s position on the Western Rail Yards rezoning proposal at Hudson Yards and participate in associated community organizing efforts.

The below are examples of events happening in the community that the High Line traditionally participates in.  Potential activities include managing an info table with flyers, educational activities, and small giveaways. Working alongside the High Line’s Community Engagement Manager, Street Team members will attend these events on behalf of the High Line, sometimes alongside High Line volunteers or teens. 

Tabling and leafleting events on and off the High Line include: 

  • Local Flea Markets 
  • Community Resource Fairs 
  • Block Parties and Family Days
  • High Line events

This is a Part-Time, Temporary, Non-Exempt position. The hourly rate is set at $25/hour.  The position will run from May through September, averaging 7 hours per week. 

Primary Responsibilities

The Street Team members will be responsible for: 

  • Representing the High Line at Community Events (50%)
    • Set up and break down of the High Line public information table at community events 
    • Support High Line Teaching Artists and Teen Staff with onsite event activities/workshops
    • Supporting tracking inventory and organizing tabling materials
  • Community Outreach (50%)
    • Distributing flyers and materials to partner organizations throughout Chelsea and Hell’s Kitchen and the surrounding neighborhoods
    • Identifying new opportunities/sites for outreach in Chelsea, Hell’s Kitchen and the surrounding neighborhoods

Ideal Experience

Desired experience of a successful candidate may include the following, but candidates will not be screened exclusively based on meeting these qualifications.

  • Familiarity with the High Line and its related programming 
  • Lives, works, and/or studies in the immediate neighborhoods surrounding the High Line (Chelsea, Hell’s Kitchen, Meatpacking District, West Village)
  • Enjoys meeting new people and working outdoors 
  • Passionate about equity and access to green space
  • Has availability on weekends
  • Speaks Spanish or Chinese

Abilities

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to walk up to two miles 
  • Willingness and ability to travel locally

This is a Part-Time, Temporary, Non-Exempt position. The hourly rate is set at $25/hour.  The position will run from May through September, averaging 7 hours per week. 

The role requires you to physically report to the office for your scheduled shift (located in Manhattan's Meatpacking District in New York City).
