Food Program Assistant

The High Line’s food and beverage (F&B) program was established in 2011 in response to neighbors and visitors regularly requesting food and beverage during their visits. Since then, FHL has strived to create an F&B program that is high quality, interesting, sustainable and fairly priced. This program is a vital public amenity that enhances the High Line experience in a positive and significant way for over 7 million annual visitors.

Reporting to the Food Program Manager, the Assistant will play a key role in the day-to-day management of food partners operating on the High Line during the concessions season (April through November). This role requires daily work outdoors as the role acts as the primary point person for the High Line’s vendors. Additionally, during the concessions season, the Assistant will be required to work two of their five work days on the weekend.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary point person for vendors on day-to-day operations.
  • Ensure vendors are following the Department of Health, Parks Department, and High Line rules and regulations.
  • Ensure vendors are maintaining visual standards and are maintaining a cleanly preparation and service environment in their space.
  • Oversee the food commissary, ensuring it is clean and in good order and that vendors follow commissary rules and cleaning schedules.
  • Communicate with members of the Operations team as relevant issues arise.
  • Supervise vendor seasonal load in and out and move out of the Chelsea Market Passage for venue rentals and programs.
  • Assist with tasks as needed related to operations of restaurant space.
  • Assist with F&B projects and programs, including community engagement.
  • Assist in establishing marketing efforts for concessionaires.
  • Daily operations reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Desired experience of a successful candidate may include the following, but candidates will not be screened exclusively based on meeting these qualifications:

Ideal Experience

  • This position requires 2-3 years of experience working in the food and beverage industry.
  • Knowledge of NYC DOH rules and regulations; Food Handler License or other food safety certification strongly preferred
  • Comfort interfacing with the High Line’s vendors.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Personable, good-humored, and have excellent customer service skills. They should also be able to maintain composition should an issue with a vendor or the public arise.
  • Ability to work early mornings or nights as needed.
  • Ability to walk the length of the High Line on a daily basis.

This is a Part-Time, Temporary, Non-Exempt position. The hourly rate is set at $25/hour.

The location for the role remains onsite, with a requirement to physically report to the office (located in Manhattan's Meatpacking District in New York City).
