Full Stack Software Engineer- Friends and Teams

We are looking for a highly talented software engineer to work end-to-end (from user experience to backend) on the Friends & Teams team at Hopper. The team is under the Growth business unit that is driving innovations to increase Hopper’s adoption and customer engagement. This is a cross functional team, with both mobile and backend developers.


The right person will be delivering end-to-end customer facing features, from customer experience to backend and data storage. While you do not need to have many years of experience, we are looking for 1+ years of experience working within a development team and interacting with stakeholders (such as PMs and UX). It is critical that you are interested in the product (Hopper) and willing to learn and work with different technologies to complete a project.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Passion for building engaging user experiences
  • Experience building automated solutions to simplify complicated manual processes
  • Interest and experience with site reliability engineering practices
  • Thrived in backend engineering positions and delivered user experience at scale
  • Experience or curiosity to learn distributed system development in Scala
  • Excelled in cross-functional teams, working fluidly with Product Managers, Software Developers, and highly skilled travel agents
  • Ability to focus on quality, writing testable code that performs well for our consumers
  • A desire to help its team to continuously improve

  • Build automated solutions that simplify the customer service journey
  • Build and operate robust and performant infrastructure that supports millions of bookings per year
  • Ship your first code in days, iterating on features in an agile manner
  • Leverage and contribute to a rich Microservices architecture system
  • Collaborate with a diverse group of people, giving and receiving feedback for growth
  • Execute on big opportunities, helping Hopper rise to the top of the travel industry



Tech Stack


  • We have a microservice architecture with over 200+ services.
  • Mostly Scala on the backend with some Python.
  • Our UIs are Mobile first: Swift on iOS and Kotlin on Android.
  • We mostly host our services on Google Cloud with some on-prem.
  • We use things like HBase, Kafka, Pub/Sub, GCP Big Query, Cloud SQL, S3, Delos, Redis.
  • We are driven by data so Amplitude, Big Query and Datadog will be your buddies.
