Garage Attendant (Transportation)

THE TRANSPORTATION SERVICES DIVISION The Division is made up of highly qualified and highly dedicated transportation experts and drivers. The Transportation Services Division provides home-to-school and school-to-school busing services every school day.

In addition, the Division provides other types of bus trips each year, such as class field trips, academic shuttles, parent buses, late activity buses, and athletic team buses. Division buses drive over 9 million miles annually in support of District programs.

About the Job:

A Garage Attendant performs simple manual tasks involved in the care and upkeep of a garage and automotive equipment.

Responsibilities:

• Cleans and washes automobiles, trucks, and other automotive equipment.
• Steam cleans automotive components.
• Refuels automotive equipment, adds oil, water, and air.
• Changes and repairs tires and tubes.
• Maintains a garage and premises in a clean and orderly condition.
• Moves and parks automotive equipment.
• Performs paint preparation duties that include machine sanding.
• Assists in making minor repairs to automotive equipment.
• Assists in lubricating automotive equipment.
• Assists a mechanic in lifting and handling heavy automotive components

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Graduation from high school or equivalent evidence of educational proficiency.

Special:

A valid CA Driver License. A valid Class B California Driver License will be required prior to the completion of the probationary period.

Special Physical Requirement:

• Safely lift and carry items weighing at least 50 pounds.
• Manual dexterity to operate automotive tools

The Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate for the Garage Attendant position will have exposure working at a garage facility, as well as familiarity with automotive parts and equipment. The ideal candidate will be very detail-oriented, with an emphasis on safety while assisting on automotive upkeep. They will be a reliable contributor who can adapt to changes in work demands; furthermore, they will provide exceptional customer service in interactions with staff, vendors, and other related personnel by being an effective communicator.
