.net Software Engineer - Front End

Overview We are seeking a full-time .net Software Engineer in our Cary, NC or Yarmouth, ME location on our Explore Web team. Seeking someone who enjoys front-end development. Please note that you must currently reside in NC or ME. No relocation will be provided... Every day our emergency response software helps coordinate rescues for hikers, boaters, adventurers, motorists, and pilots. Our satellite-based communication devices ensure that these people stay in contact with emergency services and communicate with their loved ones from anywhere on the globe. Check out the “Saved by Garmin” blog for real-life rescues: https://www.garmin.com/en-US/blog/saved-by-garmin/ You’ll work with the latest version of .NET, test with cutting-edge Garmin devices, send messages through satellites, use modern CI/CD tools to support a web application architecture in our multi-cloud environment. Essential Functions • Creates and executes small sets of new functionalities as part of a software project using C#, Knockout, React & Javascript. • Utilizes software engineering tools such as configuration management systems, build processes, and debuggers in the software development process. • Collaborates and adds value through participation in peer code reviews, providing comments and suggestions. • Provides reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques. • Performs technical root cause analysis and outlines corrective action for given problems. • Contributes to technical research on new technologies. • Estimates level of effort, evaluates new options of similar technology, offers suggestions to improve processes, and provides feedback on some design aspects. • Serves as a mentor to less experienced software engineers (Software Engineer 1) • Supports working hours as part of a rotating schedule to provide on call support of Garmin’s 24/7 operations. Basic Qualifications • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or Physics or related field AND a minimum of 1 year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience • Write and test C#, SQL, JavaScript, Knockout & React to improve our web-based app and API. Create new software, utilities or websites as needed. • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) • Demonstrated proficiency and experience necessary to develop moderately complex software in C# or Java • Proficient knowledge, utilization and mastery of relevant software engineering tools (configuration management systems, build processes, debuggers, emulators, simulators and logic analyzers) • Desire for front-end / UI development Desired Qualifications • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5) • Experience in the latest versions of .NET, ideally with web apps/APIs with Entity Framework and a relational database • Proficiency in designing well-architected, maintainable software systems (e.g., design patterns, SOLID principles, self-documenting code) • Strong sense of ownership • Used Terraform to provision cloud infrastructure • A deep mastery of relevant web technology and cloud architecture, especially relating to reliability, security and performance • JavaScript or TypeScript expertise and experience with modern frameworks Garmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
