Production Engineering Lead

The Production Engineering Lead leads a team of engineers focused on supporting our production system.  This team comes alongside design engineers and production departments to identify and enact opportunities for improvement.  The successful candidate will be able to take input from a wide variety of teammates including production floor personnel, production leads, production managers, and design engineers and work with them to identify and prioritize projects to build tools, fixtures, and processes that improve the flow time, quality, on time delivery, and safety of our production system.  They will be a good communicator that is able to understand the needs, objectives, and challenges of each production group.  This individual will be active as an engineer.  In addition to leading the group, they will enjoy leading projects and designing tools, processes and fixtures. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the Production Engineering team. 
    • Develop production engineering best practices for design, analysis, testing, inspection, documentation, and project management 
    • Provide motivation, support, guidance, and constructive feedback to the team to help them grow in knowledge, capability, and market value 
    • Define project priorities and give clear direction in day-to-day work 
    • Ensure the team has the capacity and capabilities needed to support our growing production system 
  • Design tools and processes to enable the production of the best possible products on-time. 
    • Collaborate with the production team and design engineering to identify opportunities 
    • Address bottlenecks with improved tools, fixtures, and processes 
  • Continuously improve our HQLV system. 
    • Serve as a member of our HQLV steering team 
    • Help identify quick response cell opportunities 
  • Be an asset to Production Engineering team clients. 
    • Production – Rapid response, quality tools and efficient processes, good documentation 
    • Design Engineering – Feedback regarding manufacturability, consistent documentation 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering 
  • Strong technical base in 3D CAD and engineering fundamentals 
  • Enjoys and naturally understands when to apply engineering analysis 
  • Ability to develop analysis procedures to ensure failsafe designs 
  • Experience with fabrication, machining, and/or assembly 
  • Experience with fixture and tool design/development is helpful but not required 
  • Experience with SolidWorks and SolidWorks FEA is helpful but not required 
  • SAP experience is helpful but not required 
  • Strong interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and organizational skills 
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with customers to identify and prioritize customer needs 
  • Positive, cooperative attitude with a passion for improvement, quality work, and achieving deadlines 
  • Over the course of a year, Engineering Leads typically average 44-hours/week.
