The Global Employee Benefits Specialist reports to the Associate Director, Global Benefits and works closely with the Global Legal Talent and Human Resources team to administer benefit programs, respond to benefits-related queries and escalated employee concerns, and build and maintain internal controls to support a globally consistent, competitive, and effective benefits offering.
Job Description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Participate in the planning, development and administration of global benefits strategies, policies, and procedures for core benefits (life, health and disability insurance, pensions and related retirement plans) and may also review and recommend improvements or additional benefits and cost-saving measures.
  • In collaboration with the Associate Director, other Human Resources colleagues and external service providers, the Specialist will ensure compliance with legal requirements and monitor the relative competitiveness of our benefits.
  • Apply prior HR and benefits work experience to improve the administration and communication of benefits and leave policies in multiple jurisdictions, reviewing how benefits and leave policies (such as parental or sickness leaves) reflect the Firm’s values and competitive market practices.
  • Ensure Workday benefits configuration provides a user-friendly interface and effective reporting on enrollment and cost data and tracking policy renewals and open enrollment periods in different jurisdictions to support our global population.
  • Audit employee coverage and cost information, prepare and reconcile census reports and vendor invoices, and liaise with Finance to arrange payments, allocate charges and track retirement plan contributions. This may also include calculating and reviewing premium statements, forecasting costs, and resolving errors or administrative difficulties with insurance or vendor representatives.
  • Maintains benefit records and control systems. Assures the administration of employment laws governing benefit plans.
  • Collects data on claims experience and prepare management reports to communicate significant trends affecting future costs.
  • Responds to benefit inquiries on plan requirements or changes, benefits enrollments, status changes, claim issues. Ensure quality service and timely resolution of issues, to foster positive relations.
  • Liaison with vendors regarding claims, eligibility, and ongoing service.
  • Assist with all aspects of Open Enrollment and contribute to other Talent initiatives and projects as needed.
  • Assist in Wellness program administration.
  • Assists with the distribution of all benefits enrollment materials and eligibility validations.
  • Verifies the calculation of the monthly premium statements for all group insurance policies and resolves administrative problems with the carrier representatives.
  • Collaborate with finance department for vendor payments and retirement plan contributions.
  • Provides necessary reports for allocation/billing charges.
  • Performs quality checks of benefits-related data.
  • Identifies reporting requirements regarding benefits and may develop reports or work with internal partners to develop reports.
  • Performs any and all other duties as necessary and as assigned by your supervisor for efficient functioning of the Department, Office, and Firm.
QUALIFICATIONS / KSAs
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ related experience in employee benefits and HR, ideally in a law firm or other professional services business.
  • Detailed operational knowledge of employee benefits and pensions and related policies and high level of interest in expanding knowledge to cover international jurisdictions.
  • Strong experience administering benefits in Workday.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills; clear and concise verbal and written communication.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with employees, managers and vendors.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
PHYSICAL EFFORT / WORK CONDITIONS
  • This position operates in a professional office environment which is generally free of hazards and exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
  • This position requires regular attendance on-site at a Dechert location with some travel to different sites using various modes of private and commercial transportation. Incumbents may be required to work extended hours including evenings and weekends.
  • This position routinely operates standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopy machines, fax machines and filing cabinets, and requires frequent communication with the firm’s employees and partners as well as third parties.
  • This position is mainly sedentary. Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to read, sit and type for sustained periods of time; to walk, stand, reach, and bend; to open and close filing cabinets and access and retrieve materials in file rooms; to lift, carry and move files or other items of light to moderate weight; to operate equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
  • This position requires a normal audio range, with or without correction. It also requires the normal visual range, with or without correction. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Additional Job Description
At the time of this posting, the salary range for this position is $85,000.00 to $115,000.00 annually. Actual compensation is commensurate with job related knowledge, skills, experience and location of the position.
