What we are looking for in you
Glyphic Bio seeks a self-motivated Patent Agent to join our team in Berkeley, CA. This candidate will work directly with our Senior Patent Agent and will be responsible for leading IP diligence reviews and freedom to operate analysis across a variety of disciplines, managing the patent docket, guiding patent prosecution strategies, and interacting with scientists and the R&D team for filing new IP. Candidates must have a strong foundation in chemistry, with an advanced degree preferred. This is an office-based or hybrid role, but we are also willing to consider fully remote roles for more experienced candidates.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct regular IP diligence and freedom-to-operate analysis for third-party IP across multiple disciplines related to our protein sequencing platform
Assist with and/or conduct due diligence assessments and provide counseling based on these assessments (including freedom-to-operate, infringement and validity analyses), evaluate associated risks, and develop risk mitigation strategies
Provide clear and informed counseling to stakeholders engaged in research & development, product development, business development/partnering, and commercialization
Manage communication with and guide outside counsel for both domestic and foreign patent applications
Work with scientists and engineers in identifying new ideas for patent filings and conduct prior art searches for patentability analysis
Support a variety of intellectual property-related contracts and relationships with third parties (such as MTAs, CDAs, research collaborations, licensing agreements, acquisition and litigation activities, and marketing efforts) through collaborations with outside counsel
Deliver results on-time, on-target and within-budget according to team goals
Maintain knowledge of relevant laws, regulations or statutes affecting the Company’s intellectual property.
Propose IP expenditure budgets, based on the agreed strategy
Required Competencies
B.S in Chemistry or a related field is preferred. An advanced degree is preferred.
Experience in DNA and protein sequencing is preferred
Must be a USPTO registered Patent Agent
1-3 years of experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications, conducting patentability and freedom-to-operate searches; law firm experience preferred
Experience with domestic and foreign patent prosecution
