Government Affairs Lead, Indian Country

Imagine a future where you’re directly engaging with Tribal Nations to advance the responsible siting and development of renewable energy

Join us in this role where you’ll support the development of positive and respectful relationships with Tribal Nations throughout our entire US portfolio, includes offshore wind energy development and land-based energy development spanning 17 states. Your responsibilities will include developing and maintaining cooperative relationships through outreach programs, assisting your colleagues in understanding Tribal Nations generally, appropriately responding to concerns about renewable energy projects, and maintaining consistent communication with Tribal Nations.

Welcome to Corporate Affairs
You’ll be part of Government Affairs and Market Strategy where you, together with your colleagues, will work with Tribal Nations to identify, understand, and respond to any potential concerns about impacts to their communities from project development. You’ll maintain regular communications with Tribal Nations to enhance long-term relationships and mutual understanding. You will represent us at public events, incl. Tribal activities and local, regional, and national-level conferences or workshops. You’ll draft company policies and plans on engagement and communication. As a team, we work in a team-oriented environment, and are self-motivated, creative communicators and problem-solvers. We enjoy working with multiple and diverse communities.

You’ll play an important role in:

  • maintaining regular communications with Tribal Nations to enhance long-term relationships and mutual understanding
  • preparing and delivering presentations to Tribal Nations and tribal organizations for information exchanges
  • creating and implementing partnerships with Tribal Nations to address concerns outside of permitting processes
  • developing and facilitating educational training sessions to educate our team members on cultural histories and traditions and potential interfaces with our planning and permitting efforts
  • updating internal project and permitting teams on key concerns from Tribal Nations regarding project development and assisting in the development of effective and responsive measures.

To succeed in the role, you:

  • have excellent communication skills and experience in facilitating understanding among people with a broad range of technical and cultural knowledge and divergent perspectives
  • have a bachelor’s degree in public policy, public administration, environmental studies, anthropology, Native American or Indigenous Studies, or related field of study
  • have at least three to five years of relevant work experience directly in or with Tribal governments
  • have demonstrated understanding of Tribal sovereignty and governance, traditional knowledge, cultural sensitivity, and place-based or culture-based decision making
  • are willing to engage with Tribal Nations through community activity attendance and participation.
  • preferably understand the National Historic Preservation Act, National Environmental Policy Act, applicable federal agencies, historic preservation, cultural resources, or energy development.
