Reporting to the Head of Government and Community Affairs, the Government and Community Affairs Specialist represents Getty and its mission, vision, and goals by being involved, building trust and deepening relationships with a variety of external and internal stakeholders. Supporting the Government and Community Affairs function and goals, the specialist will help maintain and cultivate relationships with government officials and organizations, local homeowners and homeowners’ associations, community organizations and Getty’s internal stakeholders. In order to be successful, the specialist will have demonstrated sound knowledge of government affairs, community relations and solid knowledge of regional issues impacting Southern California.
Major Job Responsibilities:
- Foster positive relationships with neighbors of Getty Center and Getty Villa, including homeowner associations and neighbor groups, responding to all neighbor concerns or complaints in a timely manner in order to reach and implement solutions to resolve issues. May work in close concert with Getty’s Legal office to ensure appropriate resolution.

Provide information to external organizations including homeowner’s associations, neighborhood councils, community/business organizations and community leaders regarding Getty activities.

Organize and conduct existing Getty Villa Community Relations Committee (GVCRC) regarding the Getty Villa and surrounding neighborhoods.

Maintain and develop effective relationships with local, state, and federal government officials as directed.

Develop, implement and staff community relations events and programming as part of Getty’s relationship management strategy.

Represent Getty externally on projects and operations.
- Cultivate relationships with Getty internal stakeholders. Develop effective working relationships to assist day-to-day operations.

Monitor legislative and political issues and effectively advise on and communicate their impact to management.

Effectively disseminate information across and between multiple stakeholders and audiences.

Network and develop relationships across Los Angeles with particular attention to nonprofit and community organizations.

Design and prepare effective graphic presentations for both internal and external audiences.

Manage calendars for Community Relations team and online mailboxes for multiple accounts in conjunction with department head. Coordinate additional departmental tasks as assigned. As directed, represent Getty at events and community-based meetings on an ongoing and consistent basis, often outside of business hours.

Qualifications:
- 5+ years experience working in external affairs, government, social responsibility or community affairs, preferably in a position involving project management and community outreach.

Bachelor's degree.

Demonstrated understanding of the political process (local, state and federal).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated experience interacting with diverse and multiple constituencies (individuals and groups) at all organizational levels. Proven ability to communicate tactfully, strategically and professionally.

Excellent written communications skills, with a thorough knowledge of English usage, grammar and punctuation. Proficiency in composing and preparing compelling correspondence and presentations.

Experience in the areas of government affairs, community outreach, and communications.

Experience and ability in communicating to leadership and key internal and external constituencies.
- Demonstrated customer service-oriented attitude and ability to be a team player.

Ability to manage multiple priorities, processes, timelines, rapid change and expectations of multiple stakeholder groups.

Strong organizational, collaborative and project management capabilities.

Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook Calendar management for multiple accounts.

Graphic design skills and presentation design and creation experience, including proficiency with PowerPoint.
