Position Highlights

The University of Arizona Office of Sustainability seeks a highly qualified and motivated individual to join our team as a part time Graphic Designer. Our communications reach a wide audience, including students, alumni, faculty, staff, University administrators, and other campus and community partners. This position will foster effective communication with students and staff on joint projects and work closely with the Sustainability Communications Coordinator to create graphic design elements such as rack cards, social media posts, event flyers, posters, and other digital communications to help increase visibility of the Office of Sustainability on campus. The optimal candidate will help oversee in-bound and outbound digital communications, and the development, production, and dissemination of marketing and communications to internal and external constituents.

This is a Part Time Extended Temporary Employment (ETE) position.

This position will allow for flexible/hybrid work arrangements within Arizona.

Duties & Responsibilities

Create Multimedia Marketing Materials:

  • Develop original imagery and templates for our social media platforms - primarily Instagram and Facebook - and using design and aesthetics to increase social media engagement.
  • Edit/optimize photographs in Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, or similar platform.
  • Design and build a wide variety of cross-platform materials, including but not limited to digital, printed, and other end executions as needed.
  • Assist in the development of multimedia projects in collaboration with other staff and students.
  • Edit, compress, digitize, process, catalog, store, distribute, and duplicate visual materials, data, and programs.
  • Use graphic design software including CanvaPro, Adobe InDesign and /or Illustrator to produce graphic art and visual materials for promotion, advertisement, packaging, and informative materials through a variety of media outlets.

Maintain Internal Communications:

  • Attend weekly Central Communications meeting with the Sustainability Communications Coordinator and student employees.
  • Maintain regular email and phone communication with supervisor and students on team.
  • Regularly communicate with other Office of Sustainability staff and students to help create graphic design projects that support all branches of the Office.

Miscellaneous Job Duties:

  • Assist in event photography, photo/video editing as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining and editing the Office of Sustainability website as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to help create and adhere to social media posting calendars, meet deadlines, and juggle multiple competing projects and priorities.
  • A general understanding of and/or interest in sustainability, climate change, and/or social justice.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience may be required.
  • Intermediate to advanced graphic design and visual communication experience, with experience in CanvaPro or Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Previous experience creating visual content for Instagram posts, Stories, and other social media platforms.
  • Previous experience creating materials such as print and digital brochures, fliers, posters, fact sheets, signs, and other promotional, outreach, or educational materials.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or equivalent learning attained through experience.
  • Data visualization experience (e.g. the creation of infographics, graphs, charts, etc.).
