Graphic Designer

Overview:
APPOINTMENT TYPE: Full-Time Regular (FTR)

LOCATION: Oak Ridge, TN

SALARY RANGE: $45,344 to $63,095

PURPOSE:
Creates visual solutions to communicate products or services. Responsible for the layout, design, and production activities to produce quality graphic-design artwork.
Responsibilities:
Graphic Design/Print Production
  • Conceives designs, lays out, and coordinates editorial illustrations and creative artwork.
  • Assists in developing interpretive themes that convey ideas and information.
  • Creates graphic presentations that communicate mood, emphasis, insight, viewpoint, and similar visual impressions.
  • Assists with creating cost efficient graphic designs through available mediums.
  • Provides computer graphic services for web artwork.
  • Responsible for and/or input on reproduction and printing processes through in-house resources or outside vendors.
  • Under direct supervision, responsible for the layout, design, and production activities to produce quality graphic-design artwork.
  • May contact in-house or outside vendors to verify print specifications.
Project Management
  • Tracks all jobs and projects using Workamajig, the Communications and Marketing (CM) job tracking system.
  • Works closely with internal company contacts to understand requirements and create cost efficient graphic designs through available mediums on time and under budget.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Art, Communications, business, scientific, technical, education or related field and 0 to 2 years of job-related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience performing duties as described may be substituted for the minimum requirements.
  • Must have experience in graphic design, document development, production, and printing techniques.
  • Must have experience working with writers, editors, and photographers in the development of print and digital media products.
  • Must have good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to communicate and work productively in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Must be able to obtain a working knowledge of ORAU policies and procedures, Department of Energy (DOE) orders, Government Printing Office (GPO) & Joint Committee on Printing (JCP) rules and regulations, printing techniques, photography, etc.
  • Must be able to meet deadlines in a sometimes-stressful environment.
Must have a working knowledge of:
  • Illustrator CC
  • Photoshop CC
  • Acrobat CC
  • InDesign CC
  • Microsoft 365
  • Microsoft Teams or Zoom for virtual communication.
  • Web-based graphics and design tools and methodologies.
  • CM database – Workamajig
  • Experience necessary to have developed an exceptional customer service attitude.
  • Ability to deliver copying/duplicating projects utilizing the equipment in the CM Reproduction facility.

  • The candidate’s starting salary will be determined upon hire and ORAU will use salary survey data, internal comparators, and the candidate’s qualifications to determine salary.
