Director - Portfolio Optimization and Analytics

Purpose

As Director, Portfolio Optimization and Analytics, you will drive and develop best practices and data science solutions to solve portfolio resource allocation and optimization challenges across business units at an enterprise level.  You will be responsible for partnering across various stakeholders and functions to develop fit for purpose algorithms and solutions that enable enterprise customer opportunities to be surfaced along with enterprise optimization scenarios to be generated for trade-off decisions that maximize business impact.  You will effectively partner with matrix teams to identify and implement new tools and capabilities that unlock enterprise capabilities and HCP engagement strategies. 

You will need a strategic, inquisitive mindset and keen business acumen matched with strong leadership and communication skills on top of your in-depth analytics experience and expertise to be successful in this role.  You will be expected to advance the use of data science methods and solutions, connect analytics results to business opportunities, demonstrate impact of portfolio optimization scenarios and customer focused trade-offs, and collaborate, communicate, and influence stakeholders across businesses, functions, and levels including BU Sales and Marketing, Market Access, CIO, Finance, US Digital and Tech, and Procurement with vendor partnerships and solutions.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead and develop next generation analytics and data science (AI/ML) capabilities
    • Establish analytics frameworks and standards that are fit for purpose based on best practices in marketing mix methodologies, resource allocation and optimization, HCP engagement analytics, external perspectives and trends, business and customer knowledge across the BUs, and the latest data science developments.
    • Develop models, algorithms, and solution frameworks that will be scaled for effective application of enterprise resource allocation and optimization of investments to maximize business performance
    • Effectively partner with Tech to power your best-in-class methods through development of analytics products to enable effective decision-making.  Be the analytics lead and owner of these analytics products and key point for Tech for enhancements/next gen algorithms.
    • Partner with matrix teams to identify and implement new tools and capabilities that unlock enterprise capabilities and HCP engagement strategies
    • Seek to automate and industrialize such algorithms/solutions, etc. for providing predictive recommendations and prescriptive actions to various commercial teams (Finance, Marketing, Sales, other) and leadership
    • Deploy innovative automated solutions for marketing mix models, facilitating agile enterprise decisions across the portfolio with enhanced speed and reduced resource demands.

  • Scale sub-national marketing mix capabilities across portfolio with consistent geographical groupings to unlock deeper insights and enable optimization in local markets. Establish and define “best in class” standards ensuring pull-through across the organization (vs. thinking project by project) for competitive advantage
    • Research and evaluate new developments/advancements in data science, stay on top of industry trends and environmental factors with potential impact on solutions or methods
    • Seek to understand best industry practices in HCP/DTC engagement effectiveness, isolating promotional impact across channels, resource allocation and optimization, and appropriate ways to account for differing healthcare and patient dynamics for accurate, trusted solutions.  Seek to understand best practices external to healthcare for other innovative ideas.
    • Stay on top of key partners and vendors to evaluate build, buy, or hybrid model approaches for the best models with recommendations that are trusted and actioned across various stages of brand lifecycle (launch, growth, maturity)
    • Ensure that standards and best practices can flex as appropriate to adjust to differing needs across GSK’s portfolio of medicines within Specialty, Vaccines, Oncology, and General Medicine/Respiratory but still enable portfolio analyses, enterprise optimization, and broad customer level findings/insights for continuous learning and greater personalization/customer focus.

  • Demonstrate effective Business (US, Global) and Tech Influence, Consultation, and Partnership
    • Develop the requirements, use cases, and best ways to leverage AI/ML solutions and statistical modeling that create speed to effective, impactful decision making for a competitive advantage.
    • Influence the tech product roadmap and partner with CI Business Unit teams to embed products, change decision making processes and ways of working (vs. executing the direction and thinking "project by project")
    • Apply and effectively use visualization techniques and tools to communicate insights to both technical and non-technical audiences to inspire action. Consult leadership in the business and Tech and make recommendations for enterprise commercial opportunities (present recommendations to higher level of leadership to drive decisions and action)

  • Team Leadership – drive ownership and accountability to effectively synthesize solutions and findings for holistic, business value creation and influence prioritization for the greatest impact
    • Establish advanced marketing mix resource hub within the GSK GCC, dedicated to internalizing marketing mix analytics, and developing cutting-edge resource allocation and GenAI tools for leadership.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Quantitative or relevant Field such as Statistics, Engineering, Economics, Applied Math, Analytics, Data Science, etc.
  • 8+ years of professional experience in quantitative analysis or advanced data science (AI/ML modelling), with at least 3+ years of “hands-on” experience in promotion response analytics, marketing mix modeling, optimization, customer segmentation & targeting
  • 5+ years of experience in Commercial/Marketing Analytics in pharmaceutical/biotech industry or leading consulting firm
  • 3+ Experience with SQL/R/Python including data manipulation, code development, and working in cloud-based environments (Azure, AWS, etc.).

  • Advanced degree in a Quantitative or relevant Field such as Statistics, Engineering, Economics, Applied Math, Analytics, Data Science, etc.
  • Pharma industry expertise with a comprehensive understanding of product success drivers; skilled at integrating insights from various commercial functions to create impactful enterprise promotional strategies.
  • Exceptional communicator with the ability to synthesize findings into strategic guidance and effectively influence leadership.
  • Strategic and tactical thinker capable of coordinating expertise to resolve diverse business challenges.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple work streams and develop scalable, automated cross-functional advanced analytical processes.
  • Innovative thought leader in analytical best practices with a demonstrated track record of implementing and maintaining cutting-edge analytical solutions and methodologies.
