Position DescriptionRisk Management and Audit Services (RMAS) is a department within Harvard University’s Financial Administration that assists University management in identifying, managing, and mitigating risk by providing the following services: Financial, Operational, Compliance and Construction and Information Technology Audit, Enterprise Risk Management, Risk Strategy and Insurance, and Administration of the Anonymous Reporting Hotline.Plans, organizes, directs, and oversees audits in compliance with professional standards for the practice of internal auditing. Interacts with all levels of management throughout the University. Provides senior level guidance on risk assessment using technical expertise and analytical skills. Evaluates operational and financial risks. Participates in University wide initiatives acting as a strong business consultant on complex issues. Exhibits strong management skills through mentoring, training, and developing staff. This is a part-time, seventeen and one-half hour (17.5) workweek.Typical Core Duties:• Engages all levels of management throughout the University, including presentation of audit themes to senior leadership. Participates in University-wide initiatives, including committees, and working groups, and represents the Director/Associate Director in his/her absence.• Plans and manages audit work in support of outside auditors e.g., Financial Statement audit, Benefit Plans audit, Uniform Guidance audit.• Plans, coordinates, and manages the timely completion of all assigned audits in accordance with departmental guidelines and professional standards for the practice of internal auditing.• Defines the scope and objectives of the audit based on client meetings, external research, analytical auditing procedures, and a review of the clients’ business.• Manages client relationships to foster ongoing partnering. Communicates audit specifics to client to ensure scope, objectives, status, and other details are understood.• Keeps clients informed of project status through regular updates.• Assists the Director/Associate Director in overseeing the progress of audits, major findings and problems encountered.• Oversees creation, maintenance, and timely completion of audit programs and other workpapers in the audit system of record.• Provides senior level guidance and supervision to department auditors assigned to the engagement including regular counseling to see that audit objectives are met.• Reviews and approves work of department auditors to ensure all necessary audit procedures are performed.• Prepares and/or reviews and approves “value-add” audit reports on a timely basis. Assures report contents are supported by sufficient appropriate audit evidence that provides a reasonable basis for conclusions.• Assures all issues and opportunities are brought to the attention of the appropriate, responsible individual and corrective actions are discussed and agreed. Manages issues escalation and resolution.• Assists with departmental activities including University wide risk analysis, development of fiscal year audit plans, department training programs and other related duties, as required.• Exercises strong management skills and assists Director/Associate Director in mentoring, training, and developing audit managers and staff.• Delegates project work and encourages managers and staff to take on more challenging areas to support their professional growth and independence.Basic Qualifications• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required• Minimum of 8 years’ experience in a financial, compliance or audit roleAdditional Qualifications And Skills• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to present issues and opportunities to management. Must be self-motivated, have initiative and is a strategic thinker. Must have strong analytical skills and an ability to assess business risk. Demonstrated skills in the use of computers and accessing information from databases.
