Head of Accounting

We are looking for a Head of Accounting to supervise, track and evaluate Hopper’s accounting activities. The position reports directly to the Global Corporate Controller and directs and prioritizes the workload of the internal accounting team. You will have exposure to all levels of the organization and must be a strategic-minded person who is also able to be very hands-on and extremely focused on the details. Automating, optimizing and scaling with efficiency is always non-negotiable for you because building a world-class finance function is always your ultimate goal.


Responsibilities


  • Managing and overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department, as well as, monthly, quarterly & annual close processes
  • Take ownership of GAAP figures for statutory reporting and bridging with operations
  • Establish proper accounting methods, policies and principles for a fast close
  • Help in implementing system processes and optimization of the ERP system, that removes the need for manual work and adds to the accuracy of figures
  • Assist in the implementation of a control environment in line with the Company’s aspiration of being SOX compliant while keeping a business speed first mindset
  • Responsible for recording complex accounting transactions accurately (US GAAP standards, M&A transactions, equity transactions, intercompany transactions, consolidation entries, etc)
  • Work with the revenue team to understand and help in the implementation of new processes and business lines



Minimum qualifications


  • Beyond being a good accountant, we are looking to find a great candidate who has strong analytical skills and is the best at finding solutions and answers!
  • A proven track record of working in a fast-paced international finance department
  • Loves a challenge and thrives on making improvements
  • People management skills – great people makes everyone around them better
  • Believes that open honest transparent communication is key to a great team
  • Accounting ERP experience (ideally with NetSuite) and has previously played with configuration and performed set-up
  • CPA Certification or equivalent
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • French and Spanish would be an asset

- Hopper’s fintech offerings, such as Price Freeze and Rebooking Guarantee, now represent over 70% of its air revenue.


- Given the success of its travel fintech, Hopper recently launched a B2B initiative called Hopper Cloud, where any travel provider can unlock a totally unique revenue stream by seamlessly integrating and offering Hopper’s travel content and fintech products. Hopper Cloud partners include Capital One, Kayak, Marriott, Amadeus, Trip.com, and MakeMyTrip.


The industry opportunity for Hopper Cloud is enormous as projections estimate that if all travel distribution channels offered travel fintech, it could increase the total consumer spend for the sector by $200 billion annually.
