Heavy Equipment Operator

Edwards, Inc. is a full-service industrial general contractor providing construction, fabrication, and crane services. We are currently seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator in Spring Hope, NC. The Heavy Equipment Operator will operate heavy machinery for construction, demolition, or excavation projects.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate excavators, backhoes, and bulldozers.
  • Prepare construction sites for building, demolition, and/or excavation.
  • Use excavating machinery to dig holes and trenches used in structural concrete.
  • Transport tools and other construction equipment to and from construction sites.
  • Inspect and fuel vehicles and machinery prior to the beginning of the shift.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repair on equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Ideal Candidates Should Have:

Physical requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • Continually walk/stand on surfaces which may be even/uneven, stable/unstable, and varying compositions.
  • The ability to routinely lift up to 81 pounds, push up to 60 pounds/ft.
  • Work in awkward spaces and/or positions including confined spaces and climbing.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
  • Must be able to operate machinery in all weather conditions and terrains.
  • Must be able to operate machinery for prolonged periods of time.
  • Be able to work long periods of time including evenings and weekends when necessary.

Essential Requirements & Skills:

  • Requirements
    • Extensive knowledge of heavy machinery operation and capabilities.
    • Excellent mechanical skills.
    • HS Diploma or Equivalent (Preferred)
    • Vocational school training or apprenticeship preferred.
    • Valid Driver's License
    • Excellent communication skills and commitment to safety
  • Additional Skills
    • Clean Driving Record
    • Ability to follow directions.
    • Ability to read building plans related to structural concrete and land grades. (Preferred)
    • CDL License (Preferred)
    • On-the-job training offered.

Working conditions may be indoor or outdoor. Schedule may include overtime, overnight, and weekend work. Pre-employment investigations and evaluations may include drug, physical functionality, criminal background, MVR and/or skills evaluations. Pay commensurate with experience/knowledge.
