The Dartmouth Health Pre-Apprenticeship Program is offered in partnership with River Valley Community College and supported by the New Hampshire Youth Apprenticeship Grant Program. This is a combined academic and work opportunity to build knowledge and experience that will help you be successful in a future healthcare career, including preparation for one of several fully paid apprenticeship / Associate’s Degree programs for Medical Assistants, Pharmacy Technicians, and Surgical Technologists at Dartmouth Health.
Work Experience - Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon:
During the work experience aspect of this program, you will be hired as a Healthcare Operations Support Assistant. In this role, you will be cross-trained to support multiple frontline operational, clinical, and administrative teams. This position has been designed for participants to gain important workplace skills in a healthcare environment, explore different career opportunities and working environments, and be able to work flexibly around your school schedule.
Through this role, you will interact with hospital staff, clinical team members, patients, and their families by bringing extra helping hands to our teams. The teams you are scheduled to support will be determined by a combination of your schedule and the hours you are able to commit per week. Examples of the type of work you will do include but are not limited to:
As a pre-apprentice, you will participate in additional learning activities to learn about apprenticeships and the paid and college-credit bearing training programs at DH. These activities are designed to give further exposure to the career fields supported by apprenticeship programs to help you make decisions about the best path for you after high school.
Academic Component:
As a pre-apprentice, you will have the opportunity to participate in an Introduction to Healthcare hybrid course beginning the fall of 2023, provided by River Valley Community College at the Claremont Campus. This course offers academic preparation for the Dartmouth Health apprenticeship programs which lead to an associate’s degree. Tuition cost for the pre-apprenticeship program is 100% Grant Funded for VT and NH students through the New Hampshire Youth Apprenticeship Grant
