Remote.The VP Corporate Communications will drive various aspects of enterprise communications including Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG)/Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), issues and crisis, policy and regulatory, reputation management, diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), and “brand”. Within the position you will set and guide the strategy for corporate communications, including executive, internal/employee communications, and external communications.Responsibilities• Ensure consistent messaging across all channels to all stakeholders, both internal and external.• Provide strategic counsel and tactical leadership for all multi-faceted communications plans to promote the Horace Mann brand and key business initiatives, including CSR and community impact and philanthropy strategies, both internally and externally.• Understand issues facing the organization and its business segments to provide strategic and tactical counsel as plans are developed and shared with the organization.• Provide guidance and mentorship to the corporate communications team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.• Review and edit official communications content on behalf of the organization and brand, including executive leadership team.• Lead press releases, speeches, articles, presentations, etc.• Create a multi-faceted insights-driven platform that informs, engages, and inspires our team, aligning our business strategies with our culture and business performance.• Using a variety of communications vehicles, partner across business channels to advance business outcomes through communications platforms, support change, promote two-way dialogue and connect employees with each other and to Horace Mann.• Manage editorial planning and strategy, driving content ideas to the proper channels, and setting appropriate project timelines.• Oversee content compilation of internal communication vehicles, including intranet, e-mail announcements, newsletters, etc.• Develop and lead Horace Mann’s external communications platforms, including media relations, corporate PR, crisis communications, CSR community impact and philanthropy, and some customer communications.• Manage the corporate communications aspects of Horacemann.com.• Serve as lead Corporate Communications spokesperson, also providing counsel and oversite to potential spokespeople/marketing leaders in other countries and regions.• Develop crisis communication plans and protocols to effectively manage and respond to potential reputational risks.• Create and execute an external communications plan for CEO and other C-Suite members.• Advance company culture by partnering with company leaders and the HR team to support and activate campaigns that reinforce the company's strategic plan, to leverage talent and culture as a competitive advantage.• Partner with the HR team on Corporate Giving/Community Relations to ensure vision and execution of community events, etc. are showcased appropriately though Horace Mann internal/external communications.• Oversee and manage the Horace Mann Educators Foundation and corporate philanthropic strategy.• Secure meaningful visibility of ESG and business initiatives with key external audiences.Requirements• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Communications, Public Relations, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.• 10 years of experience in managing corporate communications.• Familiarity with ESG-based value proposition messaging required.• Proven track record of developing and implementing successful communication strategies across an array of topics, issues, and stakeholders.• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex ideas and issues in succinct and impactful ways.• Insurance industry and team management experience preferred.• Financial services or technology industries experience preferred.• Experience translating business strategy into meaningful, engaging communications meet business objectives, support the company's growth, and drive quantifiable results.• Experience developing external communications materials (press releases, annual reports, etc.).• Proven ability to work collaboratively with the highest executives and across the organization, well known as a trusted advisor.• Strong leadership, strategic thinking, business partnering and verbal skills, ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels, everywhere in the company.#vizi#LI-LW2Horace Mann was founded in 1945 by two Springfield, Illinois, teachers who saw a need for quality, affordable auto insurance for teachers.
