DevOps Engineer

HQLAᵡ is an innovative financial technology firm that leverages distributed ledger technology (DLT) to bring game-changing efficiencies to the securities finance and repo industry.

 

Our core clients are banks and asset managers active in the global securities finance and repo markets, and our unique platform enables market participants to execute frictionless, precise and real-time transfer of ownership of securities. This provides our clients with capital cost savings by reducing credit risk, intra-day liquidity requirements and operational risk.


To reinforce our Technology team we are looking for a motivated Freelance Ops Engineer.

HQLAᵡ has offices in Luxembourg, Zug (Switzerland) and London (UK). This opportunity exists in Luxembourg and fully-remote.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the daily IT operations of the production platform such as monitoring, security management, change management and incident management.
  • Design and maintain a highly reliable and secure production environment, including logging, monitoring, analytics, etc.
  • Write and maintain documentation about the HQLAX platform and the systems supporting it.
  • Maintain and enhance the Continuous Integration environment for the HQLAX  software platform.
  • Coordinate the rollout of new releases across all nodes of the HQLAX Corda Business Network.
  • Hands-on development and fixing of key components of the HQLAX collateral exchange platform.
  • Investigate and resolve incidents.
  • Engage and collaborate with  technology partners to enhance the overall technology architecture of the HQLAX platform for customers.
  • Participate in threat modelling, audits, due diligence, vendor risk assessments and other risk-related activities.
  • Coordinate and participate in penetration tests and disaster recovery tests.
  • Cover part of an on-call rota to provide production support.
  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field. We specifically expect up-to-date knowledge in these areas: networking, relational databases, security.
  • Solid grasp of modern software development practices (version control, continuous integration/delivery, acceptance testing, etc.). Significant hands-on experience in the fields of software development and operations.
  • A self-starter attitude and willingness to roll up your sleeves to help HQLAX achieve its goals.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including a strong command of English, both written and spoken.
  • Strong coordination and communication skills to effectively coordinate test activities across stakeholders, partners, contractors, and vendors.
  • Strong organizational skills and a structured work methodology in all tasks and projects
  • Good understanding of the operational and security requirements that come with operating in a regulated, financial environment.
  • Knowledge of SOC2, ISO27001 or other related standards is a plus.
  • Knowledge of blockchain principles is a plus but not essential.
  • Hands-on, multiyear experience in the following areas:
    • Unix/Linux: installing, configuring and troubleshooting Unix/Linux-based environments, preferably for a financial services institution.
    • Networking: (TCP/IP, firewalls, load balancers, proxy configuration)
    • Security: key management, HSMs, PKI, TLS, VPNs, Single Sign-On, vulnerability management, penetration testing.
    • Databases: database administration, SQL, Oracle experience is a plus.
    • Cloud: automated management of secure, stable, test and production environments (using Ansible, Chef, Puppet etc.); Azure experience is a plus.
    • Testing: creating test plans, coordinating tests, executing tests (acceptance, performance, load, security).
    • Message broker/steaming: Configuring and operating message brokers (RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, etc.); and/or Message Streaming (Kafka, RedPanda, etc.)
    • Monitoring: using stacks such as ELK, Datadog, Graphite/Grafana, etc.
    • Scripting: Python, shell.
    • JVM: building, packaging, distributing, deploying, tuning, and monitoring of JVM-based application stacks.
    • Version Control: git
    • Incident management and incident response.
    • Using Atlassian tool set such as Confluence, Jira, Service Desk, etc.
    • Virtualization and containerization (i.e. Docker, Kubernetes).
