Senior Software Engineer I, HBase

 


About the team

The HBase team at HubSpot is responsible for maintaining and optimizing HBase. We manage hundreds of HBase clusters that handle more than 25 million requests per second during our daily peak traffic. Our mission is not only to keep HBase online but also to keep it fast, cost-effective, and easy for product teams to build scalable systems on top of it.

We build automation tools to detect and isolate bad hardware, improve HBase table configurations based on workloads, manage rolling version upgrades, and recover from a wide variety of disaster scenarios. We also provide tailored consultation to the numerous product teams who use HBase and are active contributors to the open-source project, Apache HBase.

What we’re looking for

We’re seeking talented software engineers to help us realize our vision of making HBase usage simple, intuitive, fast, cost-effective, and highly reliable for both our customers and HubSpot product developers. We’re looking for candidates who can solve operational toil through automation and software rather than manual intervention.

Bonus points for:

  • Experience as a power user or operator of HBase (or another, similar database technology).
  • Motivation to increase HubSpot developer velocity and product reliability.
  • Interest in working with and supporting infrastructure at scale.
  • A proven ability to solve complex technical problems, devise creative solutions, and analyze trade-offs with empathy for our developers.
  • Demonstrated pragmatic decision-making and problem-solving skills.




Cash compensation range: 157600-236400 USD Annually

The cash compensation above includes base salary, on-target commission for employees in eligible roles, and annual bonus targets under HubSpot’s bonus plan for eligible roles. In addition to cash compensation, some roles are eligible to participate in HubSpot’s equity plan to receive restricted stock units (RSUs). Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay. Individual compensation packages are based on a few different factors unique to each candidate, including their skills, experience, qualifications and other job-related reasons.
