Job Description
Here at Fugro, we conduct seabed mapping from the coastline and hazardous shallow water to full ocean depths using a suite of hydrographic surveying technologies, including satellite imagery, airborne lidar bathymetry (ALB), and acoustic sensors. Our advanced technologies can be used independently or combined based on your project requirements and are operated by our global network of qualified hydrographic surveyors. Supporting nautical charting, cable route surveys, and coastal zone management, our surveys accelerate the acquisition of high-quality hydrographic data.
The Hydrographic Surveyor will oversee the collection of hydrographic and geophysical data in a variety of challenging coastal environments, which extend from the marsh to the nearshore coastal waters. If qualified, the Hydrographic Surveyor may also be expected to process and interpret hydrographic data and generate deliverables as needed.
Job Responsibilities
Participate in the bathymetric survey and geophysical projects from inception to completion.
Operate land, bathymetric, and geophysical survey equipment for the completion of survey projects.
Act as a lead hydrographer for Coastal survey projects.
Participate in conventional land RTK GPS topographic surveys as needed.
Maintain inventory of all geophysical, bathymetric, and land surveying equipment.
Process data for QC at the end of each survey day to ensure data integrity.
Assist the Project Manager with other project reporting tasks as needed.
Produce digital and/or hard copies of raw acquisition data files daily when in the field.
Ensure all established field procedures are followed and that they uphold Fugro’s standards of data collection.
Maintain safety equipment on survey vessels, and for the cleanliness of the vessels.
Encourage continuous improvement of the company’s processes, including safety program and quality management systems.
Ensure accordance with company standards, industry standards, QHSSE policy, and local regulations.
Job Requirements
Legally authorized to work in the United States, without restrictions.
Possess the ability to obtain a valid passport for international travel.
Must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record.
Possess an Associates Degree in Hydrographic Science, Marine Science, Ocean Engineering, Oceanography, or related field of study; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience in bathymetric required. Basic knowledge of land surveys is a plus.
Experience managing various survey projects (bathymetric, geophysical, topo, etc.)
Possess or have the ability to obtain credentials for offshore work, e.g. Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC), Complete water survival course, and additional basic training.
Strong knowledge of geophysical instrumentation, bathymetric echo sounders, and land-based survey equipment a plus.
Proficient in MS Office Suite, geophysical software, hydrographic software, and GIS software (i.e., Hypack, Sonarwiz, etc.)
Knowledge of data analytical tools, and basic computer programming a plus.
Knowledge of computer hardware components, and networking interfaces for integrating geophysical and positioning sensors.
