Brand Storyteller
The Brand & Corporate Marketing team is looking for a dynamic, creative-minded, customer-obsessed brand storyteller to join our team. You should be passionate about building brands that drive measurable business growth, connect deeply with target audiences and instill long-lasting customer loyalty. You are not only inspired to but energized by connecting the dots between business strategy, brand moments, and customer behavior. With storytelling, business insights and data acumen, this role will drive connection, engagement, and advocacy with customers, partners, employees, key opinion leaders and other key external stakeholders.
The Brand Storyteller should be creative, collaborative, and confident with keen business instincts. Demonstrated abilities in leading brand voice and messaging globally across audiences and touchpoints, engaging in the creative process to develop compelling ways to bring the brand to life while maintaining smart, impactful, and informative messaging that effectively communicates the brand positioning, persona, and voice.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
Strategic Acumen
  • You are a brand subject matter expert in the eyes of internal and external partners and colleagues
  • You advance and implement brand strategies, systems, and foundational tools that empower internal and external teams (eg agency partners and vendors) to build and grow our brand
  • You advocate for investing in our brand as a competitive advantage to unlock growth among target audiences and drive our business
  • You cultivate customer, competitive and market insights to inform brand messaging strategies across our business and drive effective creative performance
  • You understand the category and markets we compete in, are a knowledgeable authority on our business, and bring fresh, relevant points of view to the work at hand
Brand Storytelling
  • You develop messaging frameworks that ladder up to the corporate brand positioning and implement tools to guide asset development across product, regional, and segment teams in close collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders
  • You know how to synthesize and distill data, research, and industry trends into inspiring, ownable and distinctive brand strategy, messaging, and creative briefs
  • You understand the target audiences, you live and breathe the brand, and you have a passion for making others feel as passionately as you – in ways that spark ideas and opportunities to strengthen the brand
  • You collaborate with other marketing teams to develop an integrated marketing calendar
  • You liaise with legal teams to ensure that all messaging is approved
  • You draft briefs and assemble cross-functional teams to activate brand moments (e.g. company anniversaries, DNA day, etc)
Passionate Collaboration
  • You forge relationships with internal teams and leaders across the organization
  • You collaborate with key partners across Marketing and the Business to drive competitive differentiation for the Illumina brand
  • You cultivate trusted advisor status through your expertise, insights, and collaboration
Qualifications You Bring:
  • 8+ years' experience in the brand, marketing and/or ad agency space (experience in Life Sciences/Biotech preferred)
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent (MBA preferred)
  • Experience in developing and implementing messaging frameworks and writing for a global audience, including digital and marketing experience
  • Strategic writer with unconventional skills for the broadest range of life sciences messaging and copy.
  • Demonstrated abilities in building brand systems designed to provide the foundation for groundbreaking creative work, create momentum for the brand and deliver against business objectives
  • Passion and energy for working collaboratively to influence collaborators and decision makers at all levels of the organization
  • Strong business sense balanced with collaboration and leadership skills, combined with optimism, curiosity, and a creative mind
  • Ability to form relationships and inspire cross-discipline teams to do their best work
  • Comfort with co-creation processes and a belief that some of the best work comes from strong partnerships with stakeholders
  • Strong analytics capabilities and understanding of market research, consumer insights, and digital metrics
  • Experience providing brand voice & messaging oversight to agency partners and vendors
  • Collaborative, passionate, enthusiastic approach grounded in strategy but flexible enough to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic industry
  • Exceptional organization, time management and presentation skills
  • Ability to work with agility and speed
The estimated base salary range for the Brand Storyteller role based in the United States of America is: $103,500 - $155,300. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
