Job Title: In-House Labor and Employment Counsel

Reports to: CEO, dotted line to General Counsel
Job Summary:
The In-House Labor and Employment Counsel will specialize in, and provide legal counsel and
guidance on all employment-related matters for the organization. They will work closely with the
Human Resources Department on overall business needs to ensure compliance with federal and
state employment laws and regulations. The In-House Labor and Employment Counsel will also
provide support and guidance on labor and employment-related matters including disputes,
investigations and litigation in local, state and federal jurisdictions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal counsel and guidance on all employment-related matters, including but not limited
- to, hiring, employee relations, compensation, benefits, and termination
- Ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws and regulations, including Title VII,
- ADA, FMLA, FLSA, and EEOC guidelines
- Review and revise employment policies and practices to ensure compliance with legal
- requirements and best practices
- Provide support and guidance on employment-related disputes, investigations, and litigation
- matters
- Interpret and advise business teams on labor and employment laws including but not limited to,
- local, state and federal laws relating to hiring, employee relations, compensation, benefits, and
- termination
- Conduct legal research and analysis on emerging employment law issues and provide
- recommendations for action
- Work with business teams including Human Resources professionals and management to
- develop and deliver training on employment law topics
- Draft and review employment-related policies, contracts, agreements and other legal documents
- Represent the organization in employment-related legal proceedings, including mediation,
- arbitration, and litigation
- Manage relationships with outside counsel as needed
Qualifications:
- J.D. degree from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with state
- bar; preferably California or New York
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience as an employment attorney, preferably in-house counsel
- experience
- Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations, including Title VII,
- ADA, FMLA, FLSA, and EEOC guidelines
- Experience providing legal counsel and guidance on labor and employment-related matters,
- including dispute resolution and litigation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal
- issues in a clear and concise manner
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate legal risks
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and
- external stakeholders
- Ability to anticipate legal issues and take a proactive approach with the HR team
- Commitment to the organizations mission and values.
Salary: 165k-200k DOE
Location: Remote position however the preferred location is California. 10-20% travel
may be required for face to face meetings at one of our corporate offices.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
