The Manager, Intellectual Property (Patent Prosecution) works under general supervision of the Director of Intellectual Property playing a central role in keeping intellectual property (IP) operations organized, participating in the execution of the company’s global IP strategy, and ensuring the rules of the USPTO, PCT, and other international patent office are applied accordingly. The objective of the Manager, Intellectual Property (Patent Prosecution) is to prepare and prosecute the Company’s patent applications, protect the Company's intellectual property assets, support the company's business objectives through strategic IP management, and foster a culture of innovation and legal compliance. This role is vital in safeguarding the company's innovations, mitigating risks, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to implement effective IP strategies.Responsibilities• Draft high quality patent applications and prosecute patents relating to inventions that are strategically aligned with the Company’s business objectives.• Identify inventions and high-value IP in cross-functional collaboration with members of various groups within the Company. Engage in invention harvesting activities.• Partner with inventors to obtain invention disclosure forms and patent assignments.• Manage intake of freedom-to-operate requests. Coordinate outside searches with external partners.• Conduct patent searches and prepare patentability opinions. Assist with IDS preparation.• Manage and improve processes for tracking innovations, competitor IP activities, and the company’s internal IP docket and deadlines. Generate reports on a regular basis.• Perform and document competitive intelligence, including analyzing the patent and trademark portfolios of competitors and potential collaborators.• Provide support for IP transactions, litigation efforts, and patent challenges.• Provide general and administrative support for all intellectual property matters.• Manage patent and trademark maintenance and annuity payments globally.• Facilitate IP communications and operational initiatives, including helping to develop and implement new IP management systems, programs, guidelines, and trainings.• Conduct IP training sessions with various engineering, R&D, development, and marketing groups within the Company.• Facilitate and administer the Company’s innovation award program.• Provide general administrative and operational support to the legal team.• Experienced in patent preparation, prosecution, and prior art searching.• Proficiency in drafting and reviewing intellectual property-related legal documents, including patents, trademarks, and contracts such as NDAs.• Ability to develop and implement effective IP strategies that align with business goals.• Strong research and analytical skills to evaluate IP portfolios.• Proficiency in IP management software and databases.• Organized, detail-oriented, and flexible. Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.• Discretion and commitment to maintain confidentiality.• Ability to stay current with changes in IP laws, regulations, and industry trends.• High degree of professionalism, strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and listening skills.• Work as a team member and collaborate with other team members cross-functionally throughout the organization.• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.Qualifications:• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline such as mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, and/or paralegal certificate from ABA accredited program.• Minimum 6 years of experience with significant patent experience in a law firm or corporate legal environment, including as a patent agent or patent engineer.• Experience managing IP dockets.• Working knowledge of Intellectual Property and IP management software.• Demonstrated familiarity with the rules and databases of the USPTO, PCT, and other patent offices.• Experience in supporting IP disputes, litigation, and enforcement actions.• Advanced degree in Law (JD) or a related field with a focus on Intellectual Property preferred.• Registered Patent Agent with the USPTO or equivalent preferred.Inari Medical offers competitive health and wealth benefits for our employees. The base pay range for this position is $140,000 - $165,000. A range of factors, including location, skills, and experience, will be considered.
