THE ROLE:
Do you have a deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, and experience working with Indigenous communities? We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Indigenous Relations Advisor to join our team, who will play a key role in building trust, transparency, and aligning company objectives with the interests and values of local communities. The successful candidate will support our company’s commitment to building strong, lasting partnerships with Indigenous communities in our area of operations.
This position will preferably be based in Fort St. John, BC. However, applications may be considered for candidates who can be based in our Calgary Head Office. This position will require frequent travel to the field and to Indigenous communities in northeast BC.
HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE:
Support implementation of the company’s Indigenous Relations Strategy by building positive relationships with local Indigenous governments and communities.
Establish and maintain community networks and responsive channels of communication.
Collaborate with communities and internal departments to build and maintain meaningful engagement and inclusion initiatives.
Develop and support training and employment opportunities.
Integrate with our operations and development teams to ensure strong understanding of our activities
Plan and coordinate company involvement and support for community development programs, initiatives and events.
Facilitate employee awareness of Indigenous history, cultures, and rights.
Coordinate tours of company sites, and other awareness initiatives
Administer the company’s Indigenous Education Awards Program for Northeast BC
WHAT YOU BRING:
University degree in a relevant discipline
3-5 years’ work experience in Indigenous Relations
Proven track record of building successful relationships with Indigenous communities
Strong organizational skills and background in event planning
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong understanding of Indigenous rights, history, culture and the importance of Truth and Reconciliation
